General comments/suggestions on lectures:
1. It is usually a well paced lecture but can sometimes be rushed towards the end.
3. Lectures were informative and enjoyable, but sometimes we didn't finish or maybe the examples were too simplified but I didn't always feel like I could do the homework from the lectures
4. N/a
6. The examples are helpful, but I would sometimes get lost when a difficult concept was quickly gone over but not explained. Recitation helped stop further confusion as did help sessions, but concepts like torque seemed like they didn't make a lot of sense because it was hard to keep up at times.
8. Good lectures, try to speed up the pace throughout instead of rushing at the end
12. I wish they didn't have to rush sometimes at the end.
15. A little fast and hard to follow for me
16. I like how interactive lecture is. I learn very well in the AMB Auditorium, which was a fear of mine coming into freshman year (not being able to learn in a class of 450).
17. clicker system worked great
20. good
21. Both professors make the lectures engaging and do a fantastic job with both examples and teaching of all of the theorems.
22. The lectures were generally helpful but occasionally I felt as though things were too rushed to cover the material well, or it seemed as though the professors were really distracted somedays and just couldn't teach as well.
23. They don't go into full detail on things so people who haven't ever had physics are so lost.
24. I enjoyed the class. The material was challenging but the professors presented the material in ways that were very relateable and interesting.
25. I just thought it was good to get a good explanation in such a big lecture class.
26. The lectures were so clear and educational, I didn't even need a textbook.
27. Lectures were very well organized but it seems like they moved a little too fast sometimes.
29. I thought that the lectures we very well done; however, I think that they could have done more examples that were similar to the homework.
30. I thought that the lectures were generally pretty good, but the size of the lecture made it a little more difficult to ask questions in order to fully understand some concepts.
31. The lectures can go way too fast sometimes. It seems like the professors spend most of the class doing a few simple problems, but then go through the harder problems in the last 5 minutes of class. This makes it hard to follow and hard to figure out how to apply the concepts to harder problems, especially because many of the intermediate steps get cut off a lot. You should show how you apply each concept and how you get from point a to point b to point c, not just point a to point c to conserve time.
33. If they could go a little more in depth, that would help a lot
34. For a first time Physics student who has been out of school for 12 years, the lectures seemed to be very high paced. upon meeting other students, it appears 98% of these students have had physics before, most the time 2 sections. I applaud the efforts the department places on making sure you get as much out of the classroom help as possible.
35. Great professors!!!
36. The lectures were very helpful when I attended them.
37. Sometimes the the solutions to examples were not straight forward. I was sometimes unsure of how to go from step a to b to c.. because things weren't always done in order or labeled clearly. Most of the time I could follow examples.
39. Sometimes we ran out of time and didn't complete the lecture notes. It would have been helpful if we had finished all the notes for each lecture.
40. sometimes there was a tad bit information to cover and i was lost on the homework problems as a result since we rush through the last few
41. Go a little fast for students who have not had physics, but that just means students should study extra.
42. Loved the way the lectures are held.
43. The examples, like the spinning bicycle wheel and the roller coaster app, help me understand the material and create a more interesting, relaxed environment. The material presented on the slides could have been more organized sometimes, but the example problems were generally clear.
44. Overall, I thought that this class has some good lectures. Sometimes, because of the material, I struggled to keep up, but that just required that I spend a little more time working on the subject outside of lecture.
46. No. I really enjoyed them.
47. The professors were easy to understand and completed the problems very well.
48. Homework a lot harder than what is taught. Spend more time explain (don't just give answers).
49. n/a
51. Lectures were always kept interesting and fun.
52. Do not rush through the material when running out of time. Leave it for the next lecture. Students should not be expected to understand material that is rushed through.
55. The instructors made it very easy to show you how the concepts are in the real world around us.
56. Sometimes hard to follow but notes are great and very nice that they're online.
58. This is my favorite class due to the professors. Thank you so much.
59. Pretty entertaining. pretty helpful. good examples. maybe explain what actual terms mean better (aka. torque)
60. Slow down just a bit.
63. The constant switching between the two professors styles is a little jarring.
68. N/A
69. I think it was pretty good.
70. Dr. Bennett and Professor Schleter are awesome teachers! I like that they have hands on examples to help us understand, the more examples and explanations I see, the better I understand. I am very happy that Dr. Bennett and Professor Schleter really care about your success and understanding in the course, and they are more than willing to interact with you and will explain anything, no matter how elementary or basic the concept is. They do a great job, and I hope they keep up the good work!
71. Dr. Bennett talks a bit too fast sometimes and it is hard when understanding new material.
73. Felt rushed at times
74. They were very productive.
75. The lectures are usually very good, but sometimes I think the most information gets lost amongst all the other stuff.
76. The lectures were enjoyable. With such a big class, I liked the fact that they took the time to talk with you and make jokes to make things less stressful.
78. The speed of lectures are a bit faster than my liking; however, I believe that's due to the size of the class and time constraint.
79. The real world applications and the demonstrations are very helpful in understanding why all this math works.
80. I feel like I understand the material during lecture, but the homework takes the lecture farther.
82. Good notes. great at keeping it interesting.
84. They should cover more complex problems after the easy ones.
85. This is one of the only classes I really enjoy so I don't have many complaints. The only problem with the class, that I can think of, is that it seems like there is always one slide too much and we don't get all of the information.
86. Take some time to break more complex problems down, rather than have a larger number of simpler problems with little to no evaluation.
87. I think they are somewhat helpful. If more examples were what is on the homework that night I think they would be more helpful.
88. Make the videos better quality. it is hard to see the slides when watching online.
89. Lectures are very informative and engaging. Both lecturers enjoy what they do and that really aids in the quality of their presentations. Lectures provided invaluable information, all of which I found to be necessary for the course.
90. Continue with the packets for notes. That really does help.
91. They are very good but sometimes do not give all the information needed to complete given assignments. Sometimes I left feeling as though i hadn't learned anything.
92. Module 4 seemed very rushed and was the least successful lecture section in my opinion, we never finished the hard examples at the end of lecture and the right hand rule made no sense to most people. Demonstrations were great overall! Keep up the good work.
93. Sometimes while explaining it seems that the professors go to in depth leaving one or two slides left by the end of class that weren't explained also I enjoyed getting half credit back on the first exam if a rework was done you should look into this with every exam
94. Please put all the guided notes in one packet. Also the lecture videos you post online always crash which is incredibly frustrating.
95. Really enjoyed going to lectures however during some lectures not all material was covered.
96. Great lectures, always entertaining and educational.
98. I really enjoyed the way in which Dr. Bennett presented the material, but I had a much harder time following Prof. Schleter's portions of the notes in class
99. I liked that the lecture notes were printed out with space for us to work them, and the examples were very helpful.
100. Great examples and explanations of problems, but more detail was occasionally needed to fully understand the material being studied.
101. I really like the format of the lectures. Also, with two professors, it is broken up and therefore not monotonous.
102. I would like it if the entire powerpoint would be finished.
103. Good balance of notes and demonstrations.
104. They need better time management in the lectures.
105. I believe that the lectures for EF are extremely helpful and crucial to one passing this class.
106. The lectures covered the material that the class chose to cover. I really had no complaints with the lectures.
107. I could not always understand Dr. Bennets Accent.
108. Both teachers are quite competent to teach this class and explain the key concepts for the class fairly well.
110. For the most part this class was excellent, however, there were many instances were I found it hard to follow problems during lectures because many steps were not included on the page.
111. During lectures, there should always be a brief focus on understanding concepts, but there actually working problems should take chief importance. Understanding concepts will come with understanding actual problems.
112. They were fun. They were probably the only lecture that I had that kept my attention and that I learned something in. The material was presented well.
114. Professor Schleter and Dr. Bennett are some of the greatest teacher I have ever encountered. The only thing way they could be better is if I actually knew them more personally, but that's just the nature of this sort of class.
115. More knock-knock jokes would be nice, but otherwise great.
116. Maybe go a little more in depth with the math and some of the topics.
117. Both professors were very entertaining while at the same time informative and easy to understand. Great pace and explanations!
118. good
121. Try to show work more. It's a little confusing trying to figure out how you got an answer. Try to use more examples for the homework in the notes.
122. the lectures were well taught for the material. you both kept me interested most of the time
123. It was unfortunate when we ran out of time and did not finish working the problems because those problems were very helpful for completing homework assignments. Also, the clicker system sometimes did not work.
125. Lectures were very helpful and the professors did a good job presenting it
129. The boxes for notes are kind of small.
130. The lectures are great! Very interesting presentations.
131. to get finished with all the lectures
132. They work well together
133. I wish there were more visuals. Like the bicycle wheel and tennis ball throwing.
134. I enjoyed lectures. They were informative and without them I would be lost in this course.
135. .
136. Module four was taught too fast! Module 3 was the best.
137. More in class food.
138. Great job of showing examples of problems and overalls teaching of the class
140. I really enjoyed the lectures, Schleter and Bennett made the classes fun and enjoyable.
141. when teaching the right hand rule, if it is related to a screwdriver working or the rule "righty tighty lefty loosely" many people would understand it right off the bat.
142. I thought lectures were very helpful. The example problems done in class is what saves me on the hw.
143. Break things down a little more on hard concepts, hard to deduce how to complete some homework
Problems from just lecture notes.
144. this was my favorite class this semester
146. learned a lot
147. I like how I can go back and look at lectures again on video.
148. They were excellently set up and very helpful.
150. none
151. Lectures are very informative as they should be, but sometimes a slide or two of lecture note might not get covered because they run out of time.
152. The EF 151 lectures were my favorite part of the week (well, not counting the weekend). I always learned something--usually a lot. My only complaints are that the audience is very large and that the lectures feel almost too short (like anything enjoyable).
153. More demonstrations.
154. Seriously the best professors anyone could have for this class. I took AP Physics in high school and didn't learn a thing from my teacher and got a 1 on the AP exam. I am doing really well in this class all because of the way it is taught and I am very thankful for such great professors
155. I don't have any suggestions but I would like to say that the videos of lectures and being able to follow the notes online has really been helpful throughout the semester.
156. Do more examples during module four, and don't let the class as early on lecture days.
157. They were good. But sometimes went too fast.
158. I know it's all about problem solving and us figuring out stuff on our own, and I know you two know your material, but that doesn't help us understand the material. Us understanding the material should be the main goal of the course, and you didn't always make sure of that.
160. Tried to make it interesting
161. Great lectures! Why can't all professors be like them...
163. I feel like sometimes the lectures seemed rushed due to lack of time to fully explain problems worked.
164. I thought you did a great job at keeping lectures exciting as far as lectures go.
165. It would be great if there were a 2% curve on the clicker questions.
166. I think Dr. Bennett and Professor Schleter do a great job at keeping the class well maintained while fun and interesting.
167. The lectures are very dynamic and well designed.
170. I found this class to be one of my favorites despite all the work that came along with it.
171. the lectures were good, good examples.
174. I really enjoyed going to this class and learning everyday. Both the professors and the TA's were very helpful.
175. Hard to read some of the notes, and not enough room on the slides to write them down.
178. The print out of the notes, while better than no print out, made it difficult to write in an organized manner because the space was small. However, I preferred less space to the final module where most of the notes provided more space but were handed out separately.
179. Sometimes the material was just thrown at us a pace that may have been a little quick for most people.
180. They were good and tried to make the information as interesting as possible. Although we did seem to run out of time a lot.
181. If they acted excited about the things that are important in lecture or at least emphasized certain points over others, it would be easier to track with them and see the paramount of the concepts they are trying to convey.
183. Both instructors were very enthusiastic about the subject and were relatable.
184. were very helpful and i learned alot
185. Towards the end we started to rush the material and that was a little frustrating. However, the professors are very effective.
186. none
187. Rushed.
188. go through some of the harder problems more in depth
189. The lectures tended to be more reading off the slides and less actual teaching the concepts. Felt rushed at some points just to get slides done and not teaching anyone very much.
190. the later lectures became a little hard to follow and were moving a little too fast but I think that is because of the large amount of information we had to cover.
191. Explain theories, especially those in module four, in depth so we can understand them better.
193. There were very enjoyable.
194. Very well done. I cannot come up with suggestions to make them any better than they already are.
196. some things werent explained completely.
197. Kept the material fun and entertaining.
198. The only thing I would suggest to improve lectures would be a function to view it online afterwards so as to rewatch examples.
199. Loved the class!! Great professors!
200. Explained well
201. Make a page of all the equations that we would learn in each lecture.
203. You guys are bonkers.
204. I enjoyed the lectures
205. I thought the lectures were very helpful and I learned a lot from the lectures. The last module's lectures weren't as solid or helpful as the rest of the modules.
206. I absolutely love the Lectures.
207. Lectures were very informative and greatly helped my understanding of the material.
208. It was a great class!
209. No improvements needed
210. Don't teach so fast! Very hard to comprehend when you speed through all of the slides.
212. I really liked how the two worked together. They have very different delivery techniques and they seem to cater to different audiences and it seems to work very well.
214. Sometimes, time ran out and all of the slides were not covered. However, the overall effectiveness of the lectures was good.
215. Sometimes it is hard to follow the lectures because they move very fast, but other than that they are good quality
216. On some subjects, a good amount of time was spent on them but on others, they just mentioned it.
217. n/a
218. Good material, I just wish you guys had been able to cover all the slides each day.
220. No general comment on the lectures
221. It is bit hard to see the clicker questions
222. The lectures were very helpful in helping me understand the material.
223. a tad bit slower on parts to explain why a certain formula is used at this point.
224. The lectures were solid. I don't have much criticism.
225. Funny
226. I thought they were very helpful, however I think I could've used more time on clicker questions in order for me to really learn it better.
227. none
228. Good.
232. sometimes went a little fast, but everything else was great
233. I think there should be somewhat harder examples in class. The examples in the class are typically much easier than the homework problems.
234. They kept me interested for half an hour. But that's probably my fault.
235. Lectures were definitely useful in learning the material and the professors' enthusiasm for teaching the class was a big plus considering it is sometimes hard to keep attention in such large lecture classes.
236. Give more time on clicker questions
239. Sometimes they went a tad too fast.
240. They presented the material okay, but it did not help with the homework or the tests.
241. The lectures are always pretty easy to follow.
243. Absolutely loved the lectures, both professors are very well versed in the material. Professor Schleter seems a bit more confident than Dr. Bennet, though both have a good sense of humor and are very easy to talk to.
244. pretty good
246. The professors really know their stuff. Although, in a class that is the size of ours it is hard to engage students one-on-one as much, they do all they can in lectures to help teach the material.
248. it was the most difficult course ive ever had
249. The co-teaching between Dr.Bennett and Prof. Schleter is like watching a comedy duo sometimes; they are the dynamic duo of EF151.
250. Lectures were fairly good and usually went pretty well.
251. Very good lecture! Only suggestion is to slow down in the beginning for some of the basics.
252. Try to finish more of them.
253. It was hard to understand sometimes exactly what was happening when we got towards the end of class and equations and numbers were just being thrown up on the screen. Maybe less should be planned for each lecture because with a class that size it obviously wasn't the students' fault that we ran out of time.
255. They were good.
256. Professor Schleter and Dr. Bennett work flawlessly together!
257. Lectures were very good. I liked that they were posted online so that I could go back and look at anything I missed or watch them if I missed a lecture.
258. Perfect the way it is
260. kept them interesting. It was easy to focus.
261. Very good lectures, easy to understand. Professors worked great together.
263. None, the teachers worked well with each other and kept things interesting.
266. Very well done
267. I didn't feel that the angular motion basics were taught very well and as a result, the rest of the module was rushed and not truly learned for me.
269. My biggest problem is when the lecturer asks a question, and is answered by a quiet voice, and then all that's said in response is, "That's right!" Half the time I never knew what equation we were using until it was up on the slide.
271. Both were very good and personable.
272. Really enjoyed the lecture. I wish, however, there was a different way to answer questions in lectures. We already pay so much for our education, adding $40 more for a very unsophisticated piece of technology (clicker) is pretty ridiculous.
273. This is the first physics class I have ever taken. I did not take any physics in high school so I have nothing to compare this class to, but did really enjoy it though.
279. Lectures are very interesting and it's nice that they have demonstrations and that there are two teachers. It helps keep your attention, plus the fact that they are not just reading off the powerpoints, and you actually have to pay attention to fill out the notes is good.
280. talk about units a little more so students understand what cancels out
281. I like the class and the overall vibe of the classroom. Both Prof. Schleter and Dr. Bennett are great teachers
284. N/A
285. They were good
287. It would have been best to start with the Energy equation and broken down the rest of it from there as it includes everything from rotation to kinetic energy as well as spring and force. Also the class in all honestly could have been done electronically with mandatory recitations as the lecture was not very interactive with students and each video was posted online. This would be the best way to teach this class since it lacks a lot of the engagement of a standard class so in person lectures are less important. Also why is this class a four hour class that meets five times a week for an hour?
290. NA
291. Make them smaller
292. i felt that lectures did show how to do problems but the homework differed in certain aspects.
293. I liked them.
294. I really like the lectures both of you are very good at teaching the material.
295. The lectures were informative and entertaining. I would have liked to get to know the professors more, but since it is a class of 450 it is hard to.
297. sometimes you go through the material too quickly to comprehend
298. Prof. Schleter and Dr. Bennett did an excellent job of keeping the lectures interesting.
301. Prof. Schleter and Dr. Bennett are excellent instructors. I loved the visual aids they used. I would have liked to see more audience interactions, because those were entertaining and helpful.
302. A little more detail in the explanation of module 4 would have been nice.
304. explain more advanced concepts a little more thoroughly
305. BEST PROFESSORS EVER!!! Wish you were my teachers for all my classes.
307. Very engaging. Sometimes moved quickly, but that's just the nature of the class.
308. liked them
309. More time or shorten lecture topics. Always seemed out of time and rushed.
310. By far the best set up/managed class I've been in.
311. Enjoyed the lecture and class.
312. Keep up the good work! You guys make class fun!
315. none
316. More visualizations and explanations for new concepts that might be abstract at first, such as impulse or torque.
318. Very good. I wasn't bored, or overwhelmed by the huge class size.
323. Loved this class!
324. The demonstrations performed throughout the year on stage were excellent.
325. Interesting and engaging.
326. No comment.

General comments/suggestions on recitations:
1. Recitations are always helpful. Geoff C is a very good TA.
3. Patrick was a great TA
4. N/a
6. Recitations are extremely helpful, expecially exam review.
7. A little more coordination would be nice.
12. Very, very helpful.
14. they were very helpful in helping me understand physics more completely
15. nothing
16. Some weeks I recitation was very helpful, but other weeks it did next to nothing for me..
17. often times too rushed, sometimes a bit too much review
21. Recitations were a good way for me to visualize the theoretical theorems or ideas that we learned in lecture.
22. I do enjoy the recitations. They are a great way to reinforce what we learned on lecture and had to do on homework.
23. Patrick is great and thoroughly explains concepts
24. The lectures were a great place for the foundations of the materials. I enjoyed it and the experience.
26. The Ipads were cool to use, maybe get the bugs worked out though.
27. Recitation was very helpful and where I learned most of the material. It was just easier to learn in a smaller environment.
29. I think that our recitations could have been taken more seriously by my peers.
30. I thought that Geoff lacked energy. He was good at answering questions and explaining things, but he never really seemed up beat.
31. Recitations were good. I can't think of any way to improve recitations.
33. They were very helpful
36. My TA, Patrick, was very helpful and seemed confident with the material.
37. Recitation was very helpful.
39. Recitaion was very useful. It helped me visualize some important concepts and I enjoyed the team projects.
41. Good. Go over more examples in detail.
42. Helpful
43. The recitations were where I learned how to work the problems and got help from classmates and questions that I got the opportuntity to ask. Also, I loved the projects that we did, especially building the roller coaster! At the beginning of the semester, I was so intimidated and my grade suffered. But as I met people and felt more comfortable, I found the material not so difficult.
44. No, I like that we did hands on activities, and that the examples and experiments that the TAs performed were beneficial to help us understand the material better.
45. Recitations should be more problem based like what we do for homework.
46. The recitations really helped me understand the topic.
47. Geoff C. is just awesome.
48. Todd is awesome. All the TAs are willing to help.
49. n/an/a
50. They were very effective in further understanding
51. My TA was always able to answer my questions, and made sure to explain a concept to me until I understood it.
52. No suggestions. Good recitations.
55. Grasp the concepts further. Didn't get how to really breakdown a question.
56. Critical to understanding the modules.
58. Recitation was very helpful in some complex points of the subject.
59. No binder checks. They suck.
60. Do more homework problems.
61. everyone take daniel, he is actually the best!!
63. It's fine
66. Patrick was an amazing TA. Learned a ton in the recitation, and the format of splitting into smaller groups at each table works great.
68. N/A
69. They were good.
70. My TA Daniel is amazing! He really goes above and beyond to make sure everyone understands the material and is helped in their studies. Once, I had a problem on homework I could not solve. I went to a help session, but it did not help at all; the TA who was running it confused me greatly and did not help me find my mistake in my work. I emailed Daniel, and he was nice enough to meet me after the EF lecture the next day, look at my problem and my work, and work through the problem with me for over 30 minutes until I got the right answer. His kindness and helpfulness was outstanding! Daniel supplements the lectures well with lots of in-class examples and hands-on projects. I really have enjoyed the recitations. Very often a concept that was unclear or skipped because of lack of time will become a lot clearer after Daniel works problems through with us. Recitation is very important in this class because it helps you know if you need more help. The practice tests are the best! If I were to suggest something, it would be that the TAs make us take the Practice Test like a real Test and not let us talk to our classmates so we can gague how much we really know and what we are weak in. Sometimes they have done this, and sometimes they have let us use our classmates for help, but I don't think the latter has benefitted me as much. I would like it if we waited to ask our classmates for help until after we had finished taking the test by ourselves.
71. The review sessions were pretty helpful.
73. Felt that it might be more effective if we went over the more fundamental problems to teach what we covered in lecture.
74. They were very helpful.
75. They help hammer in the the concepts. Plus they are fun.
76. Geoff C is the man!
77. none
78. Recitations were helpful, but definitely not as much as outside help like tutoring. There were a few that I actually really enjoyed, followed by some that felt like unnecessary busy work.
79. I enjoyed recitation, and loved being able to get help with anything that I was having trouble with. Wish I knew of a way to get the same TA for next semester recitation. The recitation worked has always been able to clear up some misunderstanding I was having from the material we had learned in lecture.
80. I think more time for the projects in there would be great.
82. Not always useful information. shouldn't be graded on attendance. Our test grades will reflect our attendance anyways.
84. They were great.
85. More examples. The projects were sometimes overly complicated with uploading certain files to the EF site, especially with the Ipad.
86. Test preparation seems marginalized considering the ease of the study guide questions, despite the relatively random spread of the actual exam questions. Especially seen in the last exam of the semester.
87. I learn most of what I need to know in the recitation so I think they are very helpful.
88. N/A
89. Recitations were a little boring and thus, little information was observed. My TA wasn't the best at explaining concepts and tended to be of little assistance at times.
90. Ensure that the TA's are both effective and on task for the recitations.
91. They are great ways to go over the information learned during lectures and get a closer look at the concepts we had learned in class.
92. Great to work in different groups and team projects were fun albeit challenging.
93. What would help me more is to go over straight forward problems like the homework in recitation sometimes the handouts were like this other times they werent
95. Learned a lot during recitation.
96. Helps give a better understanding of the lectures and meet people from class.
99. Recitations a lot of the time were where I really grasped the subject that was introduced in lecture, because we were able to have time to sit down and collaboratively figure them out.
100. I personally prefer less emphasis on projects, and I would have rather spent that time studying problems. Other than that recitation was very informative and helpful.
101. Daniel did a great job. He helped me understand so much better than I think I would have without him.
102. I like how recitation is like a "physics lab" where it is related to what was learned during the recent lecture.
103. An effective way to reiterate what was taught in lectures.
104. Seem almost useless since we do not learn anything new in recitations.
105. My EF 151 Recitation was not very informative and seemed like busy work. I did not like my TA because he did not explain things in a good way. He is a very intelligent person, but I feel that he was not very good at explaining things.
107. Patrick did an okay job. He could be mean and stern at times when it was not needed. He also did not always elaborate on problems all the way through.
108. My TA, while I do believe he is intelligent, does not do a very adequate job of explaining the concepts. I feel like recitation should be more focused on the understanding of the math problems in the module and the usage of them.
110. I think that the recitations were an excellent way to review concepts discussed in the lectures.
111. Every recitation should focus more on concepts, instead of applications. If recitations are set aside for concepts and lectures are devoted to actual mathematical problems, I think this combination would be more helpful to students.
112. They helped me learn the general concepts.
113. I often felt like recitations didn't help me learn the material any better and that the homework gave me all the practice I needed.
114. If the purpose behind the recitation period was to better explain the material and provide more hands-on experience, I'd say the goal was met. It didn't explain everything perfectly, but the team aspect was very enjoyable.
115. None
116. Working with the actual physics was really cool.
117. A little boring
118. good
122. My TA was a little soft spoken, so it was hard to hear sometimes
123. The recitations were good. It would be nice if we had maybe 10 or 15 minutes allotted to questions on homework.
124. Usually very fun.
130. Recitations are very good. My TA, Chris, is a great teacher and has been very helpful.
132. Very helpful but can be boring if you understand the material
133. More hands on projects.
134. Todd rocked
135. .
136. Chris was an awesome TA, very helpful.
137. It was pretty good.
138. They were all good, wish we did more practice problems. Daniel was a great TA
139. We should focus on the homework more.
140. NA
141. none.
142. I personally got more out of lectures than I did recitations. The recitations did help on the days leading up to each exam.
143. More homework help during recitation
144. Todd Whelan is the man
145. The most useful recitations were the one right before exams where we just worked on example questions. Geoff G was an ok TA, sometimes though I felt like he was completely lost, and one time he worked one of the review problems wrong the day before the test and gave us the wrong answer. I had to go ask the other TA to get the right answer.
146. recitations always help understand the material
147. Recitations are helpful.
148. They gave a great opportunity to ask specific questions about concepts; very helpful. I didn't like the ipads though.
150. none
151. Recitations were really helpful, and my TA was awesome at it.
152. I would have liked more in-class projects, like the "shooter" and the "roller coaster". Working out the problem on paper using what we learned in lecture, and then actually building something using that knowledge, is a lot more fun that just working problems on Recitation sheets.
153. I think that recitation would be more helpful if time were given as free time to work with other students to complete homework assignments/discuss the section.
154. Patrick is an amazing TA and is really helpful. He knows how to explain things well
155. The class was fine.
156. Instead of doing Recitation sheets, do more practice exams, and suggested problems that could be on exams.
157. Geof Cursed a lot during class.
161. Not as good as the lectures but still ok
163. In my opinion I think the lectures could be longer and the recitations should be shorter.
164. More time should be spent on homework.
165. They helped me out a lot.
166. Fun and eductational.
170. Only suggestion is sometimes we come to class, but not have the worksheets so we'd have to wait but other than that, I feel recitation is a good class
171. the mini labs we did helped alot
172. Pretty good use of time
173. I found the recitations more informational than the lectures.
174. Great job with the class!
175. Geoff C. is the bomb! Great teacher, knows his stuff, and can teach it easily!
176. The recitations always went really well, I just think that it would be better if we could work more on homework related examples instead of doing so many hands on project.
178. I would have preferred for the recitations to have corresponded to class material and homework closer, because once I felt like they stopped aiding me, I was less motivated to attend. Though I do regret this in retrospect.
179. set more time aside to work on homework examples rather than using all the time every recitation for the labs
180. We also ran out of time a lot in this class, but it did help me understand some of the concepts better.
181. I have a hard time concentrating in a group setting. As a result, I found the recitations to be somewhat tedious and unhelpful. My suggestion would be to allow the students time to work on homework and then partition the recitation time as one where the students might come to their TAs with questions. Again, my preferences are probably not uniform with those of my fellow students.
183. Daniel is a really dedicated TA
184. they helped grasp aspects i did not understand in class
185. The recitations are effective and they are a good way to apply our knowledge.
186. none
188. these classes are good would have liked to do more hands on activities
189. They need to be more productive
191. none
193. The recitations supplied helpful information.
194. I don't think the recitations were necessarily a contributing factor to my understanding of the course material.
195. only have one a week
196. TA was awsome
197. Enjoyed the hands on experience,
199. Geoff Conklin rocks!
200. Not necessarily worth my time
201. N/A
204. They were fun
205. Recitation was helpful in many ways. It provided a medium of asking difficult questions and actually getting answers. it also allowed us to meet some of our engineering peers to form study groups that helped in learning.
206. I'm glad that we had the recitations, because alot of my questions got answered.
207. Greatly enjoyed my recitation; if I ever had confusion with the lecture material, it was always cleared up in recitation.
208. Geoff was great!
209. There were no problems with recitation
212. I was in section 4b with Geoff. He started out very weak but improved drastically as the semester progressed. He needs to take charge more in his classroom however. There were many times where he would be trying to teach and half the class would be talking and I could barely hear him. He did a good job but needs to have more control in his classroom.
214. I had a great TA. The lessons for recitations didn't help understand the material as much as the homework did, but it may have done so for others.
216. Daniel was a rockstar.
217. n/a
218. Recitations were great, my TA (Chris) was personable, and able to teach me all the concepts at the same time.
220. No general comments on recitations
221. No comment
222. Recitations were not as helpful to me. I felt like i didn't learn as much as I could have.
223. more practice problems
224. Solid
225. Geoff is good
226. I felt like some of our recitations were not about what we were going over in class. I felt like some of them were maybe too easy- in some of them I didn't even feel like I had to apply myself very much.
227. none
228. Very good, Chris always cleared anything up that I was unsure of from lecture.
232. none
233. Really liked recitations-especially the hands on stuff.
234. I really like them. They offered fun challenges, but more competitiveness between groups would be welcome.
235. Recitations were very useful and ended up proving to be the form of instruction I found most beneficial for learning new material.
237. ...needs to focus more on questions from homework
239. Patrick was a great TA!!!!!
240. Recitations are very helpful
241. Recitations are not always clear. The procedures are sometimes not explained that thoroughly.
242. It did not really help me that much.
243. Most things seem to run smoothly most of the time. Once in a while there was a hiccup or two, but in general it was good.
244. it is over all decent, but i would rather have a different TA
245. Tiffany is not qualified to operate Est. 13
247. More homework review
248. they were a huge help
249. Recitations gave me a better feel of material when the lecture confused me sometimes.
250. Very helpful
251. Recitations worked very well
252. None.
253. I really enjoyed my recitation. My TA Geoff C. was really good at presenting all of the information but also keeping it interesting with his personality and with teaching us advanced topics that weren't even in the curriculum.
255. More creativity in lesson plans maybe
256. Daniel is very nice and makes the class enjoyable.
257. None. Chris was a really good TA, and taught us a lot.
260. Geoff Conklin is an extremely helpful and fun TA. He is honest and real with everything that he says. He also make lecture fun.
261. I didn't think my TA graded my portfolio fairly compared to others'.
263. None.
267. Patrick was a great TA, knew a lot about EF and was probably my best TA out of all my classes.
269. Recitations seemed to be somehow... wrong. It didn't seem to cover what needed covered in an efficient manner. What I mean is only that I felt something felt wrong about Recitation.
272. Recitations were fun and I enjoyed them and my TA very much.
273. Chris Bates was a very good TA. He was great at helping students with problems that they didn't understand and interacting in general with the students.
275. Recitations kinda taught more than the lectures did
278. I enjoyed how it was set up. The mini experiments helped with key concepts.
279. Maybe have some more hands on demonstrations for the students. It was nice the TAs did them, but it would have been cool for the students to do some too.
280. Maybe do less concept questions are more question like the homework
281. It is a really helpful course and the TAs are fun!
282. Chris Bates is seriously an amazing TA to have. He taught me so much and is absolutely hilarious.
284. Geoff is the best TA
285. Chris did a really good job and was alway willing to help
286. In most cases, the homework was completed by most the night before for extra credit and recitation becomes less productive. Maybe set time aside for actual homework help.
287. A greater emphasis on homework possibly working homework in class would have been of greater benefit instead of mainly conceptual or problems that rarely related to the homework or test questions.
290. NA
291. More time for homework
295. I loved my TA! He was very good at explaining the material and I was never bored in class. I could easily relate to him, which made me feel comfortable asking questions.
297. wish we had more oractice questions but learned a lot
298. none
301. I wish these recitations were more for review and homework help rather than projects. These projects just weren't helpful in learning the material, in my opinion.
302. Recitations helped ALOT.
304. A little extra teaching, not just going through problems
305. very helpful
308. keep them
309. Great. But a bit long and the groups need to stay the same all year to help create greater teamwork.
310. I liked how the recitations were. I wouldn't change them
311. Recitations were very helpful
312. They were helpful and I'm glad we had them
315. none
318. Very good most of the time. I learned that recitation at 8:10 is a bad idea, though.
319. Good examples
321. Recitations proved to be extremely helpful. Without them, my homework assignments would have much more difficult.
323. Please make this a required class. It was frustrating when a member of my team would not show up.
325. Fun and helped to relate the lectures.
326. Good quality, but doesn't keep attention as much as lectures.
327. none
Overall Class
Additional comments/suggestions for improving EF 151:
3. NONE
4. N/a
7. It was overall great!
8. more help on homework in class
10. na
11. work on the homework in recitation
13. Love the opportunities to get extra help whenever needed!
15. So much different types of problems
16. None.
17. fewer conceptual recitations and more hands on recitations
21. I think that EF 151 is organized well the way it is now.
22. I really wish that tests did not weigh so heavily in our grade. I don't feel they are the best way to prove someone's knowledge on a subject, and they do not reflect how a person will be as an engineer. I always understand the material during the lecture and recitation and do quite well with the homework, but once I get into the test I feel really nervous so I freeze up. Even when I know the material incredibly well, I can't manage to do as well on the tests. There are many people who are poor test takers, so I wish there was a way to compensate for that.
23. Better explanation during lecture and maybe go over homework in recitation
24. None honestly, the course is very well done.
27. none
28. I thought that iPads seemed to be more trouble than what it was worth.
29. I really enjoyed the class.
30. Overall I thought that the class was fun and good.
31. The exams seem to be getting progressively harder. I can fly through the older exams and get 100% while studying without any trouble. Once I get to the more recent ones (particularly last semester's), it gets harder and sometimes I miss problems or have to look up how to do them. Then on our exams, it seems like there is always at least one concept that was only briefly mentioned that makes up an integral portion of at least one problem. If something is going to be on the exam, please put a bit more emphasis on it somehow (whether it be in lecture or in old exams). Also, I hate concept questions.
33. It was very tough but I learned a lot
35. I like it the way it is
36. The class seemed to go over all the material pretty thoroughly. Overall, it wasn't too bad.
39. It was a great class and very organized.
41. None.
42. Good the way it is.
43. I hated taking exams in the big lecture hall. I would have done much better if I could have taken them during recitation, but that's just me. The course was by far my most difficult this semester, but it also provided the most available help. The EF program here seems to be exceptional.
44. Honestly, I don't know if this is something that they can change, but it would help to have had the final Rub Goldberg project assigned a little earlier so we wouldn't have to stress over it so much during Thanksgiving break and right before finals. I understand if this can't be changed though.
45. hard to do in a big lecture
46. I really enjoyed the class.
50. EF 151 is a well-oiled machine. My grade could have only been helped by a further effort from me.
51. Overall I enjoyed the class very much!
52. The tests are too long for a 50 minute class. We can't look at the tests and automatically know what to do to solve it. Maybe do after school tests that allow for more time.
55. Slower pace just a little.
56. I wouldn't know how to improve this but I'm glad I took physics in high school or I would probably have been very lost this semester.
58. Get rid of notebook checks.
60. Moved a little too fast for my liking but overall not too bad.
61. smaller lectures
65. Don't make projects involving Excel or Matlab! Not all of us know how to use those!
66. Less Homework?
68. N/A
69. Don't tell us that we don't need the textbook! We need the textbook!
70. EF 151 has been a great but challenging class. Even though the material is challenging and getting the assignments done has been stressful, the teachers and teaching assistants do a fantastic job of explaining the material and helping us succeed. I would suggest for problems concerning technology that we are unfamiliar with, like MatLab or iPads, that there be additional help sessions or special recitation periods to help us complete our assignments and understand what we are doing better also.
71. Pretty good class!
72. More SI session meeting times
74. It was a great class.
75. Keep up the good work! This stuff can be difficult, but that is just the way life if sometimes.
76. I don't really have any. But it did help me learn to not take 8 am classes!
77. none
78. Longer lecture, more opportunity to ask questions (maybe through an electronic device, I've seen a lot of questioning faces but there's rarely one question asked per lecture)
79. I would have liked to have more projects throughout the semester.
80. Good job!
82. none
83. Do more in recitation that is relevant to what is on tests and homeworks.
84. It was good.
86. Online exams for at least an hour, awarding incrementally decreasing points of return per consecutive answer. Basically, concentrate the system already in place for the HW system and use that for exams.
88. Very helpful classes.
91. The class is great, sometimes moved a little fast, but overall the professors give all the tolls you may need to complete the course successfully.
92. Give the final project earlier. Last three weeks are crazy, it is nice to sleep sometimes.
93. If possible someone should monitor the discussion board for homework problems more
95. none
96. Great class, very structured.
98. I wish that Prof. Schleter would more clearly explain what he was doing step-to-step during the notes. It would make it a lot easier to review over my notes if I could have written down step to step what was being done for the questions.
99. EF 151 is a lot of work, almost too much at times. Too much busy work it seemed. Sometimes if there was less work, but the key problems, I would have more time to grasp how to do each problem. However, the homework did help drill it into you.
100. I learned a lot in this class. My high school physics teacher did not prepare me properly, so I had to work pretty hard to understand the material, but there was so much extra help available that I feel that I now have a solid understanding of the material.
101. Overall, I really like how this class works.
102. I would like if the clicker questions had a little bit more time. or know when the clicker question is going to appear so I will have an answer ready.
104. None.
105. Try to improve the recitation time for EF, because I feel like it is a giant waist of time.
106. I honestly thought the class missed some key components of basic physics such as pendulum motion and period of an ocelating spring. As a class that required calculus i though that the material covered took steps to avoid using calculus based descriptions and using calculus in the class to solve problems. The class seemed to be less about the physics and more about general studying of formulas which is not bad but not what I expected out of a college level physics class.
107. I think that the class was done well. Some areas where the class could improve is in recitation maybe have more free class time to ask our TA questions about the Homework.
108. I think the lecture part is fine, but the recitation part could be spent doing more helpful activities.
110. I think a little more assistance should be given on the group projects in recitations.
111. EF 151 should do some joint projects with EF 105; this way, students can learn 151 and 105 concepts simultaneously. One joint project could be the Roller Coaster project. The 151 recitation could be used to teach the physics behind the mechanism, and 105 class could be used to explain the proper utilization of Excel and Matlab, when dealing with a real-world application.
112. I think it is great the way it is. The Professors and TA's are great, and made it fun.
113. I think I would prefer to have been told about the Rube Goldberg project like a month or more beforehand. I would have liked to have thought about it for longer so I could have made a really cool machine.
114. Off the top of my head, the only issue I had with EF 151 was the discrepancy between what's emphasized, and what was tested. (I say 'off the top of my head' because that opinion is pretty subjective.) If the goal of this course was to teach physics concepts and how to apply them, *I feel like I understood that* - but my grade doesn't seem to agree.

Now I'm not upset over this little thing or that issue - it is what it is - but it just hurts when working hard doesn't get you where you need to go. On most of the tests, there was at least one question that was way off from what was covered/emphasized; yes, they were perfectly valid questions to ask, but if everything else were red-apples, you could count on tripping over a green one (dissimilar questions having adverse effects).

I guess what I'm saying is:
**I feel this was a bad class because I understood what was emphasized (linear/angular/relative motion, conservation of energy/motion), but it didn't matter to the grade scaling.**

***And the review tests didn't (sufficiently) cover what was being tested!!*** [That alone]

Ok, I'm done. Thank you!
115. None
116. None.
117. None
118. Good class
121. Mention the extra credit options more.
122. kepp doing what you're doing
123. There is a ridiculous amount of online homework for this class - I am guessing it was made this way on purpose.
124. The class is enormous, maybe make class size a little smaller.
125. emphasize the importance of study groups and SI sessions more
126. Would prefer that reviews include all information that will be on the test, so we are not prepping for specific topics, and then get a bad grade on our test because we studied hard for the wrong material. Example: We were told to make sure we studied hard for the second half of module 4, but then most of the material on the test for module 4 explored the first half, which therefore caused a low grade for the class overall on that test.
131. getting through all the material before it is due
132. Start the project a little ealier
133. none.
135. ,
137. Best Physics Class Ever.
138. I think the class is where it needs to be
140. NONE
141. slow down a little bit, I didn't have time to write everything down. and on the on-line lecture videos i would like it if the slides were updated more often, sometimes a problem would be worked, the slide would be on the part before and completely skip the section and move on to the next.
142. The homework was very long and time consuming. Maybe if it was shortened a little. But overall the homework is of course needed to learn the material.
143. I found the homework to be the most challenging part of Ef 151. I feel I would have done better on tests if I had done better on the homework, if I couldn't figure out the homework then I don't think I had a good grasp on the methods to completing problems. I still feel as if I had a good understanding of the concepts.
144. the homework help in the lectures was helpful
145. 4th Test before Thanksgiving, having that in the back of your head makes the Turkey less appetizing.
146. help us out by giving our equation sheets back
148. Pretty good overall
150. like the real world examples like bicycle wheel and breaking the board.
151. Maybe make the exam a problem or two shorter based on time for the test being only 50 minutes.
152. More engineering jokes. They're hilarious!

I'd also liked to have seen past examples of student projects (such as shooters, mini-Rube Goldberg devices, etc.).
153. Pizza every other day. Also more clicker questions.`
154. Great class the way it is
155. I found this class to be my favorite of the semester.
156. Show more work for example problems, instead of assuming that all students know the intermediate steps. Don't rush from the first equation, to the finished product.
157. Everything was good.
158. More credit hours. We put in an awful lot of time for just 4 credit hours.
161. I cannot think of any at the moment
162. This class is really hard but the more I worked the more I knew so I really felt like I learned a lot
163. Provide an extra credit homework opportunity. This would be very helpful if one did poorly on one of the tests. Maybe it could be offered to the people who complete most of their homework.
164. It was a great way to kick off freshman year.
165. Doughnuts in recitation.
166. I like the team projects.
167. The final project has been the most tedious aspect of the class. While I believe the time allowed and project groupings are good, the limited amount of materials and equipment make the task more difficult and frustrating than it already is.
168. None. Very organized and well handled.
169. I loved the course and I thought it was great.
171. have less double homework nights
172. slower pace
174. Free pizza everyday.
175. n/a
176. It was very helpful and I learned a lot! My TA, Patrick was very good.
178. Any time a HW hint lead to something in the textbook it really helped me, so more connections with the textbook is the only other improvement I can think of.
180. None that I can think of.
181. It's hard to track with the professors when the entirety of the lecture is produced in a monotone. If something could be done to enhance the oratorical quality of their address, to show the students just why they should be interested in what they are learning, I would be greatly appreciative. It is far more meaningful to understand a concept than to memorize a fact, and concepts come much more quickly when the student knows why what he is being taught is important.
182. The slide show handouts! At the beginning of the semester, they gave us a packet with four slides on each page, which was great. But about halfway, they were putting like six on a page. That might save paper, but we can barely write on it! We can't fit all that the professors wrote, on our little pieces of paper.
184. make the test more like what we learn in class
185. Rushing the material at the end was frustrating at the end.
186. Less practice problems on lecture notes and more explanation
188. better exam preparation in recitations
189. The homework and lectures were very unprofessionally written and a lot of the mistakes students made came from loosely written questions and unclear annotations. Ex: using W to represent work and then using it to represent weight leads to confusion. use more professional annotations.
191. none
193. I don't think there are any suggestions for imroving this class.
195. have additional homeworks that we we can work for practice with a "spoiler" guide (one where you have to click on it to see the next step) so people can work through a problem and have a helping hand without having a tutor. shy/introverted people may do better this way
197. Go over the last section in more time, not so rushed. It was a lot of information for a short amount of time.
199. Sometimes lecture could be a bit fast paced, but I understand it could be a lot of material. Also, recitation helped to clarify things.
200. Good
201. It's sometimes unclear what equations are relevant and they are not clearly defined.
204. None
205. The class was excellent and was handled in a very efficient manner.
207. None
209. Make the homework a little less often
210. Good class. I would say slow down and explain more but since you had so many opportunities for help outside of class it wasn't too bad.
212. none
213. EF 151 felt like the standard beginner course for engineneers. I would have liked to see the lectures correlate better with the HW at certain times.
214. n/a
217. n/a
218. Definately don't change the homework, that's a great system. The only thing I can think of is to speed up the lectures to cover everything.
219. More emphasis on material to be covered on Module 4 exam.
220. no comments for improving ef 151
221. none
222. It would beneficial to not have two homework assignments due for extra credit on Monday.
223. n/a
224. More 1 on 1 explanation.
226. I felt like at times it would've been very helpful to have more then one help session a day on some days. On days when the homework was hard there would be so many people at the help sessions that it was hard to really even get that many questions answered. Due to the amount of people at the help sessions, I would get behind in my homework because I wouldn't be able to have everything answered.
227. none
228. It's all pretty good.
229. more time on exams. Even just 5 or 10 minutes would help out.
232. Maybe assign final project a little bit earlier, so that it is not due during exam week
233. Easier tests ;)
234. N/A
235. If certain technologies are to be implemented, such as iPads, make sure the TA's are thoroughly trained in teaching and using them in recitations.
236. Do not assign a huge project due the week exams start. unnecessary stress. Also when given team work days make sure student understand what is currently happing in class.
239. I took advantage of the help sessions! They were great!
240. More examples.
241. A little more explanation in recitations.
243. If there were a little more time to go over homework during recitation that might be appreciated, but everything generally runs smoothly and that extra time is not necessary due to the availability of study sessions and the discussion board.
244. less people in lecture. offer two
248. homeowrk due dates a little longer
249. no comment
250. more effective way for students with little physics experience to gain experience before the class starts. i.e. summer
252. None.
253. The homework was really heavy. Especially when there were two due on Tuesday night. Spread them out more during the week.
257. The homework was very intense. I found that it took away from my time that I should have spent on other classes.
260. Do a little more review about normal and tangential acceleration before the rotational exam.
261. Very good class and has prepared me well for the future.
263. Perhaps improve the projects slightly. Other than that, I really don't have any.
267. Better Angular Motion
269.  The homework was almost perfect- the only problem is that at the beginning of the year, we are told that the textbook isn't necessary, but only two weeks into the class the hints for the problems in the home works became riddled with problem numbers in the textbooks as hints on how to solve the problems. Either change the problem hints to actually give hints, or declare in the beginning of the year that the textbook is necessary.

Also, I have a small pet peeve in regards to equations. I understand that you might be trying to show us where the equations come from, but when you give us an equation, it should not be something we have to simplify before using. I do not like how the equations often followed this pattern:

Goal = the derivative of this + the derivative of this
or
Goal = the integral of (this +that)

For one thing, I still don't know how to do an integral. I'm in calc 1. for the longest time, I didn't know what a dderivative truly was. Even when I did, I would look at the given equations with a mixture of disgust and utter confusion. This= that+other, not some way that is more complicated than it needs to be.
271. It was good for a hard subject.
272. Providing more examples of problems for the online homework. Sometimes the questions were different than the book example and it would be hard to relate the two types of problems.
273. More time or fewer questions on the tests. Even after doing the homework and being comfortable with the material I still struggled with the time limit to finish every question on the test.
275. doing more examples that resemble the homework
278. I took Physics 136 last semester and dropped it when we got to Torque because I had no idea what was going on and had not learned anything. This class was TOTALLY different. I loved the way this class was taught and I actually understood it. This made me beyond happy, because I thought I was just dumb. No, my previous teacher just wasn't as good as ya'll.
279. N/a
280. curve test grades a little
284. N/A
285. none
287. I said this above, but begin with the energy equations, just use online lectures instead of expecting students to come to class because the lectures were not engaging/interactive. Then use recitation to back up the information and allow a greater understanding while working more problems instead of using it as a mainly conceptual period of study. Most importantly I would say is to encourage more homework working in recitation.
290. NA
291. --
293. Have less homework.
294. Better organization of lecture slides or some planning to leave a lot of blank space for long problems
295. More extra credit!

86. On par for what I would expect.
87. The website was very helpful. I liked the online homework and the calendar. So I could never get behind.

96. Great site and keeps you aware of not just ef things but engineering in general.

108. The class is interesting and informative. Though hard, it prepares you for the work you will be taking on in the future.
110. The grade estimator needs to made to not include uncompleted grades as zeroes.
111. The website is great and easy to navigate through.
112. It worked well for me.
113. The website is great except for the fact that it isn't blackboard. It would be nice if I could check grades and see info for all of my classes in the same place. But overall I thought is was good
114. Quite good for a class website.
115. Just spice it up a little bit.
116. Maybe consolidate all useful information into one page for each student.
117. None
118. Logged me out often
122. the website is very well organized
123. I do not like online homework in general because you can have the right answer in the wrong format and it is counted wrong. The discussion board is very helpful since there is not class time to ask questions.
124. A lot easier to use than blackboard.
132. Best website at utk
133. It was extremely helpful and easy to use.
134. It was easy to get to the homework.
135. .
137. Better than the Blackboard by far. Make it so that the grade estimator can ignore things that haven't come up yet (such as Finals or Exams)
138. Best website in the school
139. Please don't show hints after missing a question. If I'm stuck on something and I have tried it three or four times then I've seen the hints and they aren't helping. It's frustrating.
140. The website is very well structured and easy to find everything.
141. none
142. I do like that the past exams are posted because it really helps to prepare for exams.
143. N/a
144. set up in a very easy to find things way
145. Drag and Drop file uploads would be pretty cool. It would also be nice if the auto log off timer was a little longer, having to log back on after submitting a HW question you spent like half an hour on is a little intense.
146. much better than blackboard
148. Much better than blackboard
150. none
151. Web site is solid.
152. I frequently got the message "Quiz is not available" for no apparent reason, and the Picture Upload feature "is not implemented yet". Overall, though, the site is pretty good--way better than BlackBoard.

And your Imperial Sandtrooper image is "houston.jpg", while the image that says "Houston, we have a problem!" is called "starwars.jpg".
153. I would suggest putting the practice exams in the "Exam information" section.
154. good
155. The website was the first place I went to better understand a discussion topic, locate hw help and keep up to date information on the class in general.
156. Much more accesible than Blackboard, keep up the good work.
157. I liked having all the grades nice and neatly organized so I know how I am doing at all times.
159. This is 100 times better than the Mastering websites. You guys should get into the biz.
161. Good website
163. It seems to be a little jumbled on the announcement page and It is the most frustrating thing in the world when it makes you log out of the site when you do not touch the screen for five minutes.
164. It was easier to use than other courses websites.
165. None
166. I like the grading system.
167. The web site is well laid out.
170. sometimes i'd have to continually sign in when working on homework

172. easy to follow
174. No negative comments.
175. Easy to navigate
176. The website is very helpful. I get on it a couple times a day. The grade estimator is really handy.
177. I got a rather annoying error where on some days every action would require you login. So you had to long it multiple times. You had to login every time you changed or reloaded (like submitting answers to homework) the page. My password is VERY annoying to have to type out every other minute.
178. Much more effective than blackboard and well organized.
179. Very informative and helpful when i needed information
180. It has pretty much all of the information I would ever need.
181. The website is fairly intuitive. I don't remember having any problems with it.
182. The discussion board helped so much.
183. I don't remember if there was a part of the first lecture in which they did this, but if not, Dr. Bennett and Prof. Scheleter should go through and point out all the aspects of the website. There were parts of it that would've been helpful to me that I didn't find out about until half way through the last module.
184. it was good
185. I like having a separate website for engineering
186. none
188. the website is very helpful
189. Good, the HW could use an example/practice section to test your knowledge before getting questions wrong on the hw.

193. I like how the web site is set up.
195. maybe have like a site map or something with all links on one page so you don't have to search through them so much
197. N/A
198. The system often required me to log in every time performed an action. While I was attempting to do homework, this would result in me having to log in with username/pass every time I wanted to submit an answer or advance to the next question. This was a very frustrating bug that happened roughly 40% of the time for me.
199. only school related website i like. nice set up for the site and homework.
200. Good
201. Informative
203. I love the website. I wish all of my classes had one like it.

207. Website is very easy to navigate.
209. The website is easy to understand and the grade calculator is a must have
212. I love that you can access old lectures, old exams, and the discussion board. I had been told that you all were trying to weed people out in EF151 but I found just the opposite that you were giving EVERYONE every opportunity to succeed.
214. Very good site.
215. pretty user friendly
216. Some links were harder to find/figure out but once you did some searching, you could find it (some of the clicker information and final project info was hidden for example)

261. Very good set up on the website.
263. None.
264. couldnt have made it without it.
267. Loved the website, was easy to use
269. I think this was created very well. My only issue with the entire site is the grade sim... it wouldn't let me change the exams to 0 out of 0, and so my grade was always a relative mystery.
271. Easy to navigate
275. very useful
278. It's pretty legit. I like how structured and organized it is.
279. I'm not sure it works well on Internet Explorer...sometimes I would try and do my homework at work and had to use IE, but the page would not load or take about 20 minutes. But I guess IE is not the best either...

General comments/suggestions on the textbook:
1. The textbook is not very helpful on a lot of the problems we work. It can be helpful, but it is explained differently then what we've learned making it less helpful.
3. Hard to understand/follow sometimes
4. N/a
6. In HW help, hints like see textbook were very unhelpful even when consulting the book. A possible solution would be to link the time in lecture this was mentioned or a similar SI video.
15. N/A
16. It was often frustrating to see that the "hint" on the homework was a text example. I prefer a hardback textbook, but I also did not feel that one was necessary for this class. I learned just fine without it.
17. I never used it except for once- seemed really silly and was mildly frustrating/ unhelpful when hw problems hinted to view textual examples
21. I actually think the textbook examples are ample, but I think it will probably help with EF 152 more.
24. I never used, so I can't comment.
26. Not having the requirement of a textbook is great. It saves money and allows the students to use it to pay for the rising cost of tuition.
27. N/A
29. I would have liked to have a textbook for help on the homework.
30. It would have helped if the material that was taught in lecture was taught the same way as it is in the text. That was the only reason that the textbook wasnt as helpful as I had wished.
31. N/A
33. Didn't buy it
36. I could have done without the textbook.
37. The textbook was hardly every helpful.
39. I mainly used my notes from lecture on homework. On occasion, I would use my textbook for clarification on concepts and how to start certain problems.
40. i think making the textbook optional makes kids not want to buy the book especially since there are no assignments out of it and there is plenty of info from lectures and recitations
41. None.
42. n/a
43. The textbook provided great further explainations and additional equations and examples for most of the material. I would reccomend anyone to buy the textbook because it is well worth it.
44. I didn't use it much, and when I did, for the homework problems that said use you text book, it didn't help much.
45. I bought my book on amazon for 5 dollars. The edition before is the exact same material and worth buying. Reading the information clears up confusion from lecture.
46. I don't know. I did not buy the text book.
49. n/a
52. The textbook was pretty bad. It did not explain any of the concepts well.
55. N/A
56. The examples usually confused me further.
58. N/A
59. It is not good.
60. Should have been required.
61. none
66. The textbook was helpful occasionally, but it was usually better to look at notes, or watch old lecture videos.
68. N/A
69. I'm sure it would have been useful.
70. I really like having the textbook and using it to help me understand something that was unclear to me in lecture. My biggest problem with the textbook is that many of the Homework Problem's Hints are references to the Textbook, but when I go to look them up, the problem is about a different topic or that page and problem number do not exist. The hints for Textbook problems should specifically denote which page and problem number for the problem for each version of the textbook that the course accepts. For example, if a hint said look in your textbook, but the textbook versions had different locations for the problem, the hint should be followed by something like this: Example 4 on page 57 (Version 12); Example 5 on page 60 (Version 13).
71. I didn't buy the book.
74. I didnt get one.
75. I don't really like the textbook.
76. Only used it for homework references.
77. none
78. I think if hints on homework suggest the textbook, you should make it required.
80. I think it should be used more.
82. N/A
84. I prefer a textbook, but would not buy it unless it was mandatory because of the high cost. I think if you are not going to make the textbook mandatory then it is not fair for hints to be examples from the texbook. Maybe their should be a hyperlink to the specific example problem or something.
85. I don't necessarily think that a textbook should be required for the class because you don't NEED it, but since many homework hints rely on having the book, the usefulness of the book should be expressed more explicitly
86. Better information can be acquired for free online.
87. It helped out sometimes. But not usually.
88. N/A
89. The textbook should be required if the hints to each homework problem suggest looking at it. It was extremely difficult and frustrating to find some of the answers without the book.
91. I did not purchase one so hard to say. But have heard that sometimes example problems did not correlate with the H/W problems very well.
92. N/A
93. Sometimes on the homework hints it'd say refer to a problem in the book that didn't match up with my book
95. rarely used, helped only a little when actually used.
96. Didnt really use the book, only for reference problems for the homework.
99. The textbook was at times very unclear. The examples were sometimes not very well explained. There were a few times I found it very helpful though, particularly concerning circular motion and torque.
101. I used it a couple of times when the homework hint referenced a problem. It usually did not explain as well as the notes did.
102. I prefer a textbook due to the fact that it allows me to have more options of obtaining the knowledge instead of just lecture, recitation, or help sessions. Having the textbook in physical form makes it easy to have at the ready.
104. If there was a little more direction given on the homework, the textbook would be not needed.
105. I used my roommate's book and felt that it helped me some, but not enough for me to buy it.
106. I flipped through the textbook and found that it was not as advanced as my highschool AP Physics C textbook. I really think that the college of engineering should make this class cover more difficult concepts and add calculus based physics if they require calculus as a co requisite for the class.
107. The book was absolutely no help at all.
108. The text book can help sometimes, yet sometimes it is not very effective.
110. Most of the hints in the homework that directed to an example in the book did nto correlate.
111. The textbook would be more of an asset if problem numbers were recommended for practice.
112. I thought it was a good source to go to in order to get things explained in a different way; however, I may have only used it 5 or 6 times the whole semester.
114. The textbook deviated too far from the material when I needed it - I hate to say, but it wasn't really helpful.
115. None
116. None.
117.
none
118. Everything we need is on line
121. It really does not help.
122. make the textbook a bigger resource
123. E-versions of textbooks are nice because you can search for terms that you are working with. I might have bought the textbook if there was a cheaper e-version. As it is, I did alright in the course without the textbook.
124. Do not buy.
129. It's not very useful for this class. It was a waste of money.
133. none.
134. Book not needed
135. .
136. Virtually useless.
137. Didn't use it, but made it really frustrating when all the hints referenced it.
138. It wasn't really useful
140. NONE
141. get the hints and textbook to match, or an optional hour to attend to learn to get the hints from the book, I bought it and every time I opened it for a hint off the website I couldn't find it or understand how it could help me.
142. I did not use it that much. I was kinda hard to follow compared to the lecture notes.
143. A lot of homework hints just had text examples but I didn't not have textbook because several people who took this class said I did not need to buy it
145. I found the 12th edition used for 30 bucks on amazon, and I only used a few times, but it was still worth it. I'm glad I didn't go for the 13th edition though because that would have a huge waste of money.
146. could be a useful textbook it was referred to more
148. Didn't need it often, but when I did, it was helpful.
150. none
151. Textbook examples were somewhat hard to understand.
152. I think the textbook would have been very helpful on some of the homework problems ("See textbook example *"), but I think I learned the material fine without it. My Dad had a very old edition of the book, which I looked at, but I thought that things were explained far better in lecture than in the book.
153. Hints on the homework often refer to the text book, which isn't very helpful because the textbook isn't required.
154. I didn't have a text book and my lowest grade on all four of the module exams is a 90. the book really isn't needed
155. I was informed at the beginning of the year that I would not need the book for this class. I was not told this by a former student but rather a staff member of the bookstore at the UC. I found it aggravating at times when the hints given were examples from the text when I was told not to even worry about buying the text.
156. I did not have one.
157. Only looked at it once. And realized it didnt help with anything for this class so I never used it since.
161. I was told it was not used
163. Maybe if it was used in recitation such as having a copy of the text book on each table, we would realize the usefulness of it and use it to aid us in our homework and studying.
164. It was useful for the examples but I never read it.
165. You should require one made for the iBookstore.
166. I never needed to use it.
167. The problem examples given as help for the homework were often very ineffective.
169. I wouldn't require the book but I would highly suggest it. I would also mention that half of the hints on the homework tell you to use your textbook... so they're not all that helpful.
171. did not use it very much
172. did not use
174. Never used it. It was impossible to understand and only had one answer to a homework. Lectures and recitations were where I learned the most and benefited the most, for certain.
175. From what I've heard, the book did not help that much.
176. N/A
177. E-book would need to be cheap OR have extra benefits unless it is also used for the other physics courses as you can't sell it back. If the book is not going to be required then PLEASE link to a photocopy of the examples from the book referanced to in the hints.
178. The textbook is a lot more formal than the lecture notes, but this was a good thing because the notes supplied enough information to make the more formal written textbook make sense, which in turn aided me in understanding other "formal written" resources. The only thing I didn't like about the book, is some of the homework problems went beyond what the textbook provided.
179. either make it mandatory to have or say you don't need it because i thought it wouldnt be necessary to spend the money on but then most of the hints on the homework were examples from the book that i didn't have
180. I think the textbook might have helped some, but I don't think it would have been worth paying that much for it.
182. I didn't buy the textbook because the professors said we'd hardly use it. Which was fine, we didn't in lecture. But i found it absurd that about every homework problem said to refer to the textbook. They should've have definitely mentioned that. I would've bought the book if I knew it was going to be like that.
183. We should've been given fair warning that most of the homework tips revolved around the textbook.
184. was not usefull
185. N/A
186. none
189. If they used a textbook they would need to follow along with it much better and I think it would be more useful if they followed a textbook where students could just read the chapter if they got confused by the lectures or missed a lecture.
191. When i had the chance to look at a friends textbook it didn't help at all.
193. I did not buy it.
194. The lecture notes were so well done that I didn't think I needed to purchase a text book to understand the material. The only times I wished I had the textbook were when the homework hints mentioned examples in the textbook.
195. i bought my real book pretty cheap but so far have not looked at it once. i use the internet a lot instead.
197. Didn't really use the book at all.
198. The course does not require textbooks and this is nice. I like this

However, often times, the hints for the online homework told the students to
199. i liked it but didn't use it very much.
200. Dont need one
201. Not used much because wasn't specific to what we needed to do.
203. I got the jumbo deluxe textbook that's actually three-in-one... whether I will use it in future classes remains to be seen.
204. Too big and it wasn't used much.
205. didnt use it very much and the questions are harder to follow than the ones in lecture.
207. Notation in textbook was different than notation used in class, so it was hard for me to use.
209. I am glad they don't require a textbook
212. I did not buy a book, mainly b/c it was nearing the $300 mark. Even if I would have bought it, I may have only used it once or twice to clear up some things. You all did a good enough job that I did not find it critical.
214. Did not use.
215. find a better one?
the one we have was really confusing and hard to make the connection from text to lectures
216. The book was not used at all, if we were given practice examples or suggested extra practice from the book, and if we were told which chapters in the book we were studying, then the book would be a useful asset.
217. not used but I bought it
218. I only used it when I couldn't get a homework problem and I reasoned through their work in the book.
220. very good book
221. Did not use a textbook
223. Make one that follows the course
224. Did not use
226. When I was stuck on homework, couldn't get all my questions answered in help sessions, and other peers wouldn't help me with what I didn't know, I had absolutely no way to figure out homework- I thought it would've been very helpful to have the text book in those times.
227. none
228. Never bought it, I was told I wouldnt really need it.
232. none
233. I like that it isn't required, because it really was not used much.
234. I got a 5 on the Physics C AP tests in high school, so I had a strong physics background. Would recommend the book to all newcomers.
235. The textbook is more or less useless for this class. Even though it has some examples of the type problems we had, the examples were too far from our problems to be much use. If someone really needs help learning material outside of lecture or recitation, the EF help lab or SI sessions would be far superior to anything one could learn from the book. It should be shared to incoming students that they will most likely be better off just saving the money and not buying the text book.
237. Very hard to follow, the material is usually presented in very complicated terms. While technically more correct, a textbook written this way is extremely hard to learn from because simple concepts seem to be hidden in complicated phrasing and symbols.
240. Hard to understand if you have not had physics before.
242. The textbook for me was very confusing. I tried multiple times to try to understand the material better but it did not help me whatever.
243. I've talked to a few people who have it, and they all said that while it was handy when the homework said to reference a certain problem from the book, they didn't hardly look at it otherwise, using the discussion board instead.
244. pretty good
245. The book is a must if you want to learn and understand what your doing not just how to the problems.
248. NA
249. If said textbook was not needed then I would not buy. but if needed, real book if did not need to carry it around, e-version if needed to carry.
250. it was hard to understand at times
251. I can't learn from an ebook, I would prefer a cheaper textbook.
253. I didn't get one.
254. Personally the textbook was essential to learning the course.
255. MAKE IT REQUIRED. I assumed "Not Required" meant that it truely wasn't required but it is a necessity!
256. Used only once or twice and when I tried to use it to help with homework, the suggested problems were never correct.
257. I did use the text book to solidify my understanding or help on some topics. But if the book wasn't on Amazon for under $5 I wouldn't have bought it.
261. Had I known what the class was like I wouldn't have bought one.
262. Stop referring to text book examples in the homework hints. Nobody has the textbook.
263. Did not have book.
264. text book material is not presented the same as it is taught.
266. As long as the textbook is anything but mandatory, it's not getting bought.
267. Only time I used it was in angular motion because I felt the topic was poorly taught.
269. As I said above, either make it mandatory to have the textbook, or don't include textbook problems as the hints to problems in the homework. I think the lecture notes do pretty well, and if the hints were modified then there would be no need for a textbook.
271. Real is better
272. I am glad this course does not require a book. It was far too expensicve
273. I bought my book used online and it was only around $50 if I remember correctly. Not a bad investment for the amount of times I used it!
278. I think if the lecture was geared in the same format as the textbook, then it would be more helpful. But I didn't use mine much because I got confused sometimes.
279. I didn't buy it. I think it should just be recommended because I could do everything without it, and previous 151 students didn't buy it either and said they were fine without it. However, if it were super cheap I'd be more inclined to buy it.
280. didnt get one
284. N/a
287. A textbook is NOT necessary for this class, I don't know how to emphasize that any more strongly than typing in all caps which I have refrained from doing. The notes are quite helpful and important especially since one can watch the lecture videos. A stronger encouragement in recitation of working problems can better supplement the lectures than the book could and would be more desirable as it is further engaging and normally easier to access than most. (I.E. if you don't understand it from reading the notes a book might be much more help and one on one with a TA would be much more beneficial.

301. Don't use it. Also, don't use it as hints for homework problems. The notes provided by lecture and recitation were very effective on their own.
304. if we are told to refer to it for homework help, refer to the book more in lecture. i like using text books, but we didn't really mention them at all in lecture
305. Very useful. Helped me with problems that I didn't figure out.
309. Useless. The book is so much more confusing than helpful.
310. Did not buy.
312. Did not buy it and did not need it. The notes provided and explanations given in lecture and recitation are more than enough.
315. n/a
318. I felt like it was a waste of money, to be honest.
319. They examples to look at were not similar at all. It would have taken forever to figure out how to do the one in the big then figure out which aspect was actually a hint for what I was looking for on the homework.
323. I tried using it one time. Overall was a pure waste of money.
325. book was confusing on explanations,
326. Not necessary, but helpful for homework.

General comments/suggestions on the clickers:
1. Easy to use.
3. good way to take attendance
4. N/a
10. expensive
11. Zoom in on the clicker questions bc from anywhere behind the 30th row one spends half their allotted answer time trying to see the options
14. good idea but if you forget your clicker then you recieve no credit for that lecture even if you pay attention
15. Cool gadget
16. I like the interactive aspect of the clickers.
17. solid system
21. The clicker questions allowed me to think on my feet and were usually good for making sure I knew the concepts as well as calculations.
24. The clicker is rather frail, I would suggest they try to make it more durable.
26. My clicker is old and didn't work a few times.
27. sometimes more time was required to answer clicker questions
29. I liked how the clickers helped to get everyone involved in the lecture.
30. LONGER RESPONSE TIMES!!!!
31. It can be almost impossible to get some of the clicker questions sometimes because questions are always asked before we go over the concept.
33. I liked the quizzes
36. I'm not a fan of the clicker.
37. The clickers are a good tool.
39. The clickers kept me focused during class.
41. Good.
42. waste of money
43. The helped me pay attention, but I do not think I really learned much from them. They are way overpriced as well.

50. They were alright. good for a participation grade i guess
52. No suggestions. The clickers were a good idea.
55. Made the class more interactive.
56. It was a good idea, helpful and made me pay attention.
58. Good tool.
59. Give more time because sometimes the connection gets messed up.
60. Good way to get class involved.
66. None
68. N/A
69. I think the current system is good.
70. The clickers are a good way of getting a grade for attendance and seeing how well you can quickly understand the material. It is very helpful because it helps you see where you need to study when you miss questions, and several concepts on the tests come from the clicker questions.
71. THe clicker is pretty cool.
74. They were kind of a pain to keep up with.
75. It's useful to gauge where the class is on concepts.
76. They are a great tool to use to help me stay attentive in lecture. I still wish we wouldve gotten an 100% though
77. none
78. Lots of technical issues at first. Overall, I liked the app, but it was a real bummer the few times the professors forgot to turn it on.
79. I love the interaction and the instant feedback on whether I am understanding the material.
82. gives you a reason to pay attention
84. On the rotational topic I usually ran out of time and didnt get to choose an answer.
85. Clickers are a great way for the class to interact.
86. Definitely gives added incentive to attend lectures.
87. I thought that the clickers were very engaging. Made you pay attention in class to get a grade. It also made you think instead of just writing all lecture.
88. N/A
90. I found the clickers to be a very interactive way to engage in the class.
91. It keeps you paying attention during lecture so that you can answer the questions.
92. Liked using them.
93. It was a fun twist to kecture
95. had no issues with the clicker
96. Nothing, clicker questions are always helpful.
98. It's a really efficient way to take attendance.
99. Clickers were helpful in making us focus and try to really understand in lecture.
101. They were useful to judge my comprehension during lecture.
102. The clicker questions should be seen and able to be answered before they appear during lecture. OR more time allowed.
104. Makes you pay attention in lecture.
105. Clickers helped me.
106. I enjoy the use of the clickers but i really dont see a viable need for them. This is not to say that they should be negated but i think that they should be used to get more feedback front the class rather than asking if the class knows how to do a certain problem.
108. The clicker questions while hard make you think about the math.
110. Good way to keep students involved
111. I think the clickers are a fantastic way to measure attendance and test knowledge over a topic.
112. They made the class interesting. You had to stay alert.
114. I think the clicker system is really good for what it offers; honestly, the only downside is just having to buy it.
115. Warn students that using clicker on laptop is a much bigger hassle than using the app on your phone or the actual clicker.
116. None.
117. none
118. Too fast often
122. clickers were good attendance grades
123. I liked the clickers (it kept me involved), but sometimes there was not enough time to work a problem or think through it critically before time was up to respond.
124. to expensive
129. I'm glad we got a grade for them, but they are annoying.
133. I lost some clicker question points because my clicker was online and sometimes the 'GOVOLS' would go offline.
134. I do not like using the clickers
135. .
137. Pretty sweet.
138. I liked the interaction in class and it forces me to come to lecture
140. This made me feel in tact with the class and kept me into the lectures.
141. none.
142. The clickers were fine and easy to use.
143. N/a
144. clicker questions were good to have but the fact that there was so little time to answer, i had to guess a lot
146. Great way to keep people awake and interested in the lecture
148. With the way they were used in this class they were good.
150. none
151. Clickers were really helpful in keeping me awake, therefore I focused longer.
152. I wish they were cheaper. Fifty dollars is a lot of money to me.
153. The clicker questions are an entertaining way to check understanding, and they keep me awake.
154. cool
155. I thought the clicker was a great part of the lectures.
156. I only see them as useful for attendance in large lectures, they're only capable of answering. They should be able to send in questions, in some way.
157. It was good.
161. None
163. This semester they seemed to have many technical difficulties and closed the channel or had the wrong question match up.
165. If 98% get it right, end lecture early.
166. Good system.
170. not the biggest fan of the clicker personally
171. clickers are good way to interact in large lectures
172. pretty usable
176. The clicker is an awesome way to take attendance in such a big class to get each person's participation grade.
177. Maybe figure out why the clicker receiver or websession ID went down from time to time.
178. They were useful in helping me understand how well I was following lecture, but I wish all of the pertinent questions were included in the notes.
179. i liked the clickers
180. I like them.
181. They make me come to lecture, but sometimes I don't want to come to lecture. Sometimes it's more helpful to watch them online, in which case, I lose points.

185. They are pretty expensive, but they do encourage participation in class.
186. none
188. did not like that if you forgot it or had to miss a lecture there was no way to make up the questions
189. It makes sense to have clicker questions to test concept and helped to have some interaction.
191. keep using them
193. No comment.
195. make clicker questions answerable if you watch the lecture online, that way if you do have to miss a lecture, it won't be as bad, but a point penalty could still be in place to deter it
197. Kept the class fun.
198. The ability to use a web device as a clicker is a fantastic feature that I really appreciated.
199. didn't care for them too much, but understand that attendance must be taken some way..
200. Good stuff
203. More clicker questions!
204. They kept me on my toes waiting for the next question
205. i think it is a good idea for large lectures.
207. Helped me pay more attention in class.
209. The clicker allowed me to be more focused during the lecture.
210. Too many questions asked too quickly. Keeps you involved but also confused.
214. Made class interesting.
215. It is effective for making people come to class if they need the boost in their grade for participation
216. They were generally useful, sometimes the internet for the questions wouldnt be open but besides that, they were fine.
217. very helpful
218. Clickers were nice, they kind of have a slow confirmation time, but other than that they did their job.
220. NO comments on clickers
221. Too expensive
222. ...
223. n/a
224. Useful
226. Give more time to answer the harder questions. I know you all did give more time for the harder questions but I felt like a lot of the time if I still needed more. Aside from that I thought it was great!!
227. none
228. Pretty good check of concepts questions.
232. none
233. Learned quickly that the app for the droid phones do not work-had to go to the website directly. Good bit of info to pass on.
234. I don't like them, but they force participation, so I see why they are necessary .
235. Clickers were great. Definitely keep these in the class because they keep attention in lectures and can be easy tools for pointing out problem areas for not only students, but the lecturers as well.
236. Expensive!
237. Unnecessary
240. none
241. I liked using the clickers to answer questions.
242. A lot of times I could not access to submit my answers.
243. Wish they would be used more to allow students to express opinions on certain homework sections and the like. This would allow the students a certain amount of satisfaction in seeing their opinions up in front of the class, and would give the professors information they might be able to use to focus on certain problems.

Though it is an engineering class, there is also a great possibility for surveying here (as we are quite a large group), and given the right questions a lot could be learned from 15 minute.
245. $50 Really?
248. if you miss a lecture it kills your participation grade
249. They are convenient.
250. they were good
251. Pretty well overall
253. I liked them. It kept things interesting and there was always that faint hope that we would get out of lecture early if we all got it right.
254. Bought clicker on Amazon.com.
255. Go over the advantages of the smart phone option. It is cheaper and I would have used that option had i Known more about it
257. Good way for us to participate in lectures.
260. It made me actually pay attention
261. They were beneficial.
263. Interesting way of learning.
269. Please make the windows bigger! About halfway through the semester, I started sitting with my genius friends in the back rows, and none of us could easily tell what the answers were; the text was too tiny. I have no idea if it's possible to change the size of the windows, but it would be VERY welcome.
271. It was fun for me
272. They are too expensive. I missed a couple weeks of clicker questions so I could save money. This technology is far too unsophisticated to be worth $40-$50. They should find a way to tally and ask question with something that is free.
278. I like earning participation points this way. Instead of just attending class, we are challenged a little to earn our participation.
279. They're good for participation.
280. good way to make sure people are paying attention and showing up to lecture
284. N/A
286. No problems with clickers and in-class quizes.
287. Legitimately the only reason I came to class (that and my sense of righteousness) and I know many others feel the same way.
290. NA
291. --
293. I liked them.
295. I felt like I was always pressed for time and couldn't focus well.
298. none
301. I like this part of the class. I'm pretty sure you rigged it so we couldn't get 100% on it!
304. good idea to use clicker.
305. neat
309. Make them usable from online when at home and sick and cannot attend lecture.
310. I think they are a good supplement to class and help keep you engaged.
311. none
312. Keep using them. It helps most people pay attention. Maybe have several more questions that are simple, just to make sure everyone's paying attention.
315. n/a
318. Very good to keep me paying attention.
319. They always caught me by surprise, they were really annoying, and the with the answer delay I might hit the answer with a couple seconds remaining but it misses the opening altogether.
323. Watch out for laser pointers!
325. good tool
326. No comment.
327. none

How does the homework system compare to other systems you may have used?
1. It is easy to use and always has the possibility of extra credit.
2. More interactive
3. It is really good. I learned most from HW
4. Better than most
5. Better than the online chem homework for sure- please never use that sort of system
7. It is so much more helpful than my other courses and actually relative to the course.
8. About the same quantity but the homework was a lot harder
10. its harder
11. its a love / hate relationship because you cant turn it in unless its correct.
12. I also used WebAssign, and I prefer the EF layout better.
13. I feel that I learn more with the homework format for EF 151 than with the traditional system. The hints and multiple attempts allow you to see what you did wrong and fix it to still get credit for the problem.
14. its easier to use than systems like webassign
15. It is a lot of homework
16. Better.
17. very good- extra credit for doing early is nice and is really helpful since it lets you know when you finally have the question right
18. It was a ton easier to use.
19. I like this system much more than others.
20. good
21. I think the homework system is well established and was much more organized that previous systems that I have used.
22. This homework system worked really well!
23. Other systems are computer generated assignments
24. Very easy to navigate and helpful
25. I like the on line homework better because it gives me immediate feedback to my answer being right or wrong.
26. It is so much better than blackboard.
27. It is helpful especially the discussion board.
28. This is the only class that I have that has online homework. Seems to be more effective because you get to know if you have the right answer more immediately.
29. I like this homework system a lot more than the other.
30. Much better.
31. It is much better than any other form.
33. I like this system a lot
34. The best I have ever seen.
35. I like it. it is very helpful
36. This homework system is much better than others I've used.
37. I prefer this system because you work with other people and have good study notes.
39. The only other homework system I have used is Mastery Chemistry, and the EF homework system is much better.
40. i like the slight leeway on most of the problems especially compared to some other classes computer programs used such as mastering chemistry
EF 151 is hw set up MUCH BETTER
41. Good.
42. A lot better.
43. This homework system was by far the most effective online system that I have used. It was very, very time consuming but always related well with the material and I learned the most from the homework. It was also well organized.
44. It is more periodic and in-depth then other homework systems I have used.
45. It is a lot better than any mastering (chem & bio) I liked the format of it.
46. I like it. It helps me learn easier.
48. The system was good.
49. no
50. The best, by far.
51. It was the first time I've had to turn homework in online, but it was easy to follow and I did not have much problems with it.
52. I thought the homework system was pretty great and the extra credit was super helpful considering some of the homework was difficult.
53. I really like it and is much better than masteringchemistry I believe.
54. I liked it but the homework most times take a long time to do.
55. Effective goes straight to the point however hints were not much help
56. Pretty helpful compared to other systems.
58. It is very easy to use and entertaining.
59. It is better than web assign.
60. I prefer this system.
61. alright
63. The 110 percent credit was a very good motivator.
64. I haven't used any other systems.
65. I didn't really care for the 2% deductions made for each incorrect answer.
66. Pretty different, but good. The only frustrating thing was there was no opportunity for partial credit if you can't find the correct answer.
68. N/A
69. I like this pretty okay, but when the hints are unhelpful, it's frustrating.
70. This homework system is the best computer homework system at UT. I hate the Pearson Labs and the Blackboard website. On the Engineering Website, the Homework is set up so you can do as good or as bad as you wish, and the deduction is minimal, so you can guess several times, and it gives you immediate feedback on if your answer is right or wrong, which makes you feel more confident when doing homework. I have really liked having the computer to check to see if my answers are right.
71. Better than any of the other systems I have used.
72. Much more reliable.
73. Very well organized and structured. Also had many great ways to receive help
74. It was very user friendly.
75. It's so much better than Web Assign that I use in Calculus.
76. I like it much better. There is plenty of help if you need it and the discussion board is great.
77. it is much better then any system i have experienced so far
78. I like this system a lot; however, in my past homewok in MyMathLab, if you got an answer wrong after a certain amount of times it would give you the answer and another similar question to work to avoid losing points. That would be a nice addition. Also, less conversions!!
79. I liked knowing instantly whether I got it wrong or right.
80. It makes sure I do my homework. Homework is optional in all my other classes.
81. Much better than Mastering Chemistry.
82. Funny and educational! Hints are very helpful.
83. It is much better than WebAssign and other systems I have used. The EF system is the best by far.
84. It was great. Easy to use and to transition into.
85. Better than others by far.
86. Identical in many respects, with the exception of the point system.
87. I thought it was a very good system.
88. it is far more effective.
89. The effectiveness of the on-line homework was very good. It allowed you to know if you had the correct answer, while allowing for multiple tries in order to achieve a good understanding with little penalty. The problems, however, oftentimes wouldn't load towards the end of the module, so I couldn't see the necessary numbers needed to work the problem.
90. This homework was far more difficult and time consuming.
91. It is ok but the only issue is not knowing what you are doing wrong if you get the problem wrong. Can be very frustrating at times.
92. I have never had online homework before but I liked that you knew if you were getting it right right away.
93. It was straight forward like the others no better no worse
94. Its actually much better.
95. It was very easy and allowed you to see your grade immediately.
96. The homework system is the best I've had in college.
98. It was fairly well set up compared to some of my other classes.
99. I have not used any other systems. This is my first semester in college.
100. Good, but sometimes I felt the diagrams were misleading and it would have been nice to have someone to explain them to me.
101. I like this homework system much better than others I've used.
102. This homework system allows for a discussion board to interact with other students/professors. This was the only difference from the other systems i have used.
103. The online system works great. The fact that you can try one answer, find out it's wrong, and try again is effective in helping one work through a problem. Also, writing the question and answer down for each question on each homework and keeping all of this in a binder helps for looking back at the material.
104. Very helpful in class, but really more homework than necessary.
105. Did not like it, due to difficulty
106. It is much more efficient for a larger class and it gives instantaneous feedback. i really enjoy doing homework this way.
107. It is the same as in high school. All of our physics homework was online as well.
108. Better than web assign or mastering chemistry
110. It was excellent
111. The only other system I have been exposed to is homework assignments from a textbook. And although the online homework can get frustrating, it is nice to know when I have correctly worked a problem.
112. It was helpful.
113. I was really impressed with it. It has a much better margin for error than most systems, which means getting a problem wrong almost always meant that you actually did something wrong rather than it being a rounding or formatting issue
114. I'd say just about as good as it gets (just considering the format, not content so much).
115. I liked the online homework and the different percentages of credit given based on date done much better than any other system of homework I've ever had.
116. It was much more effective in making me understand concepts.
117. Decent
118. good
120. The best I have used.
121. It's easier to use and the discussion boards really help out with the process.
122. it makes you become organized about your work
123. It is as bad as most online homework systems
124. It is by far the best.
125. its more useful and practical
128. It is about the same ... The extra credit was nice
129. It's easier to use than most.
130. The homework system works well. The extra credit option helps a lot!
131. I think it is effective
132. Its very easy
133. I like this system more than my other classes.
134. It is the most efficient
135. I like the HW system and hint system a lot. Maybe add an option to solve a different problem for half credit
136. I really like how the homework is done.
137. Better. Hard to lose Homework when its online.
138. I loved the hw system, way better than any other one that I have used
139. I prefer it.
140. All of my homeworks are online this semester so they are the same.
141. It's a good system, better than mastering chemistry.
142. I really like this system compared to the mastering physics or chemistry. Mastering is so much harder to use.
143. I like the system
144. this hw system is the best way i think, it is very organized and always updated
145. This is the only one I've used online
146. Have used math hw sites like course compass and this is much better
147. Homework system better.
148. Much better
149. This system is much more efficient, I believe.
150. good
151. The homework system is the best one I've used so far in my career.
152. The only other online homework system I've ever used was WebAssign. I can truthfully say that the EF 151 system is infinitely better than any other system I have used.
153. The homework system works well and is more reliable than other ones that I have used.
154. i like one a lot more than mastering chemistry
155. I thought the format of the online homework was very effective. I have used a different online homework system for physics in high school and looking back and comparing the two I definitely would recommend the current system over the other.
156. The homework system is tremendously more effective than say, mastering chemistry. The system does not glitch often, and has reasonable tolerances for answers incase there is a small rounding error.
157. It doesnt really compare with anything I have had before.
159. Very good. the best.
160. I like the extra credit attempts and being able to keep trying so many times.
161. Immediate feedback
162. This system is by far my favorite
163. I do not like it. It is stressful to get the homework done on time therefore I am not properly learning the concepts due to this.
164. It was different because I never actually handed anything in.
165. It's very similar to the homework in other classes.
166. It is better than most because of the discussion board.
167. This is my only online homework, however, in comparison to written homework I think that it is very well designed and forces the student to come up with correct answer unlike written homework.
168. Very organized. I never had to worry about when things were due. All I had to do was go online and see when the date said. Very resourceful.
169. I like it more than web assign and mastering
170. The homework was useful as our tests seemed to closely relate to it.
171. i like the online and the automatic grading
172. works very well
173. The amount of homework in the system is great.
174. I like it much better, however there seems to be a little more risk for the student I believe. If we work on it alone or when we have the most time and we get questions wrong, it can take some time to get that question answered, but I guess that's why we have the notes and books. Excellent system, overall.
175. Never have done online homework where the numbers are all different
176. The homework system is very good. In chemistry, we use Mastering Chemistry which also takes off points each time you try. In Calculus, we use WebAssign. In WebAssign you get five tries and if you don't get the correct answer in those five tries then you do not get credit for that problem.
177. It is OK, not the best but not the worst (it is not as picky as something like MasteringChem).
178. The grading system is the best I've used in an online homework format. I rarely had issues with the precision of my answer in terms of rounding.
179. ive never used a system that was like this one
180. It is kind of similar to webassign.
181. I haven't used any other comparable HW systems.
182. They would very well, I was impressed with the website. Much better than Mastering or anything like that.
183. I like it, but the difficulty of the problems seems random and there were many times at which I could literally do no more than one or two problems.
184. pretty well
185. It is good!
186. Much easier to follow.
187. similar
188. this is the best system
189. It is a very good system compared to others and it is relatively easy to use, but it could definitely use a practice section or an explanation section on how to go about solving similar problems.
190. I think that it worked very well especially with the option to look at hint and the discussion boards
191. its ok, but i dislike that it takes away so many points after a wrong try.
193. The homework system is faster and easier to use than other systems I have used.
194. I like this system better than my mastering chemistry homework.
195. it allows me to learn from my mistakes
196. thought it was gret !
197. It was challenging but good review.
199. Best online system i've used. not confusing at all.
200. Very different, but useful
201. Better
204. Very different
205. I like this online system because knowing when you get it correct helps a lot and the whole system is helpful in learning.
206. It has it's moments when I want to chuck it out the window, but for the most part it does help.
207. This is the first online homework system I've ever used.
208. It was very difficult at times for me, but the online discussion board and study sessions helped a lot with them.
209. The set-up of the HW was helpful and easy to use.
210. Never done homework online!
211. I like it better because if it's not finished on time it doesn't drop strait to a 0.
212. I really liked the discussion board. We don't always look at a problem the same way so it was good to be able to ask a question if I got really stuck.
214. Better.
215. it is user friendly, but if you make one mistake in simple calculations the whole answer is thrown off even though you may have done the problem right
216. It seems to have been perfected over the years and it is very systematic in how they line up with the lectures and the module.
217. better than any of the "mastering" websites
218. Excellent, best homework system I've ever seen in my life.
219. Better than MasteringPhysics or WebAssign, four sure.
220. It forces me to stay caught up in class
221. Takes too long
222. It is a lot more time consuming, and it is difficult.
223. above average
224. It is better than other homework systems.
225. It is better
226. I really liked the system because it was simple to use and everything else related to the class was on the same site which made it very simple and easy.
227. good system
228. Much better.
229. way better then online websites such as mastering chemistry.
230. unlike any other,very usefull
231. Much more comprehensive
232. the best I've used, especially because you can turn it in for 110% credit and finish it after it is due if you do not understand it
233. I really liked it. It was good that there were hints on some, and I like online homework because you instantly know if you did something right or not.
234. I like the instant feedback, so that those answers spurn further investigation and work on the homework, however, once someone is stuck, it is immensely frustrating, as many times the tips don't help at all. Please, stop referencing the book.
235. I have used online homework before, but this system was the best I have had to use so far. It was simple to navigate and easy to use. Also, it was nice being able to pull homework up on my smart phone, which could not be said for most other online homework systems.
236. It is very specific in ehat it wants.
237. Very good, except, after a handful of missed tries, the system should do more to guide you to the correct answer. It is very discouraging to spend hours on one problem just to keep getting incorrect answers without any further guidance.
238. It's better because it accounts for rounding errors
239. I like the automatic feedback.
240. It is very different.
241. I don't like how we have to set up our homework. My style of doing things seems to work a lot better and a lot faster. However, I understand the need to keep things organized. College kids should know how to do that though.
242. it was ok.
243. Much better than any other. Love the allowance for extra credit if we turn it in early, love that I have a little leeway should I have a horrible week and not be able to finish it for a short while. If the homework simply became unavailable after its due date (like the math and chemistry courses I am currently taking) I would have a MUCH harder time of this class. I am very pleased with the homework style and hope other departments mirror it.
245. very good
247. If I didn't know how to do a homework problem, it was very tough to find someone else that had the homework before the grade had already ran below 75%
248. difficult
249. It is better than mastering chemistry.
250. this was the first online homework i had ever done
251. Good, though the homework itself is quite difficult on your own.
252. Never dealt with online homework other than submitting papers. Actually, my calculus professor used WebAssign, and it was basically along the same lines. Instead of hints, there were occasionally "Practice Another Version" buttons that would reproduce the same problem with different numbers, giving the option to show/hide answers and/or solutions. This is more helpful when there was a problem that I simply could not grasp how to do.
253. It's better. It's really simple and easy to understand. I like how you know immediately if you got it right. The discussion board was also really helpful.
254. Much much better... I despise WebAssign, which is very cheap, ineffective, and awkward, and it shows.
255. Frustrating but not infuriating
256. Much better!
257. The homework is similar to other classes. I like that it is online and provides multiple attempts and we are rewarded if we do it early.
261. The best homework system I had this semester.
263. This is the first time I have done homework online. So I have nothing to compare it to.
264. Very nice. It keeps you up to date with how you are doing in the class.
266. It's alright. It regularly gets sig figs wrong, which has been a constant source of annoyance for me all semester.
267. I like the system, it was just hard.
269. I never used a system like this before. I think it was highly effective.
271. Very much better than any I have ever used online.
272. I personally prefer actually homework to online homework. It was difficult for me to understand some problems without seeing them worked through a couple of times. The dicussion board helped, but sometimes wasn't enough.
275. Better since its online and i can do it from my iPad or my iPhone
276. 1st time doing homework this way, i liked it except when the answer button says your answer is ' not correct '
277. It's much more tedious and difficult if you work alone. I would not recommend it.
278. It's pretty well set up, similar to my spanish online homework. Both systems are very straight forward and the bugs have been worked out.
279. It is a lot nicer than other online homeworks I've used. It doesn't have a lot of kinks and it is easy to understand how to use it.
280. it is a lot different but i like it
282. Not similar at all because it is so customized.
284. It's more simplistic
286. It is much better. Organized layout with hints to homework is appreciated.
287. It is very good at allowing multiple tries and the hint option is nice but could have been better utilized then just saying look at figure five. Regardless of having the book or not would people not to thought of already looking at that (It was all I could take not to turn on caps lock there...)
290. it was ok
291. More trivial
293. It was my favorite.
294. I liked how the homework was due the same time each week. It was pretty time consuming though.
295. Better than all the others, I wanted to work on EF instead of my other homework.
296. I prefer this system.
297. it is great, gives you your grade as you go along and easy to use
298. I like having the discussion board, its a good way to get help without overloading the professors/TAs
299. I liked how it was pretty reasonable about giving credit to answers that were very close.
300. It was frustrating having it online. I prefer written homework turned in, then graded and handed back. So you can see what you did wrong and learn from it.
301. I like this homework system because of the multiple guess and hint method. Other homework systems I have used were only dropbox-style programs for files.
302. Very different
303. I think it works pretty well, I like that there is extra credit and the fact that not much is counted off for submitting a wrong answer. Hints are really good.
304. much better than webassign
305. Whoever made this system is a genius!
307. The fact that you can be incorrect a few times and it not kill you saved me. Also, I really liked the credit system, where you could do it a day or two early for 110%.
308. good
309. So much better. Clean and easy.
310. A lot better than most.
311. It's pretty good and similar to others.
312. I've only used 3 since my time here at UT, but it's the best I've used out of the 3.
315. Different yet room for less errors. Pretty effective.
316. about the same
318. I enjoyed the immediate feedback of the online homework telling you if your answer is right.
319. You actually had to do the work, which there was not a whole lot of explanation for some of it, and it was really frustrating when I knew I had it right I was just making some silly error, but it did help learn the material. I just wish it had been more consistent.
321. I have not used any other system, but this one was effective. There were a couple weeks that I was very sick and didn't complete some assignments. This directly impacted my understanding of those modules.
323. Better because there is a bit of leniency with answers.
325. effective and discussion boards are a lifesaver
326. More easily accessible, and easier to use.
327. none

General comments/suggestions for improving the homework system:
1. Make sure the material is all covered, so that we are capable of completing the assignments.
2. Make it multiple choice.
4. N/a
8. maybe more help and be a little clearer in the explanations
11. possible integration of the lecture videos into each similar hw problem.
13. none!
15.  A lot of different problems
16. I like it a lot.
17. good as is
21. Maybe once a correct answer is procured there should be links to more examples similar to the problem just worked.
22. Sometimes my answers would be off by a tenth of a point and the system would still count it wrong, so I thought that could be slightly changed.
23. Go over them
24. None, although it was evil.
26. It's great the way it is.
27. Possibly more hints on harder problems when students are stuck
29. I think the homework system is good as it is.
30. None. the EF homework system was much better then the other systems I had to use.
31. None, the homework was good.
33. It is definitely better than paper hw
35. Maybe just a little less
36. None that I can think of.
37. I think that they homework system is great.
39. I suggest making the homework a bigger part of your grade because of how much time each individual spends on it.
41. More examples on questions the homework has.
42. Keep it!
43. Do not make 2 homeworks due on Mondays. It is very stressful.
44. Not really, unless you assign less homework (just kidding).
45. Different format on the homework sheets
46. Check the discussion boards more often.
48. Hint not be (#in textbook)
49. n/a
50. None. good job.
51. Rather than having two assignments due on one day I would have not minded having two due days in a row.
52. No suggestions. Good homework system.
55. Easy to access but not easy to work alone.
56. The hints are really nice but I get more help from the discussion board.
58. none
59. Do not assign more than one homework due on one night if possible.
60. None.
61. bigger margin of error
64. On the homework hints, it doesn't help anyone to give the hint "look at page __ in the book" since you basically told us at the beginning of the year not to get the book.
65. During lecture, cater to the level of difficulty of the hw. The hw problems were ridiculous compared to the lecture, even the exams for that matter
66. None.
68. N/A
69. The hint system could use some work.
70. The system is great! I think it is the best online Homework and Classroom Resource website at UT.
71. N/a.
74. It helped.
75. It is much harder than the test questions, but it prepares us for the material.
76. None
77. none
78. Same as above.
79. None
82. Not having two homework's due on the same night would have been helpful.
84. Add more time before the system times you out.
86. Another system I used had a 4-try limit, which returned the full answer if answered correctly or if that limit was reached. Forget the limit, include an option to view the work.
87. I thought it was good because you could never get behind without knowing about it. I also liked that you could always see when everything was due.
88. N/A
89. Correct the issue mentioned above.
91. The hints got a little broad toward the end and it made problems very difficult to solve if you were not exactly sure how to do them.
92. Don't have two due at the same time.
93. Have someone monitor the discussion more
95. Really enjoyed the extra credit for turning in homework early.
96. Great system.
99. Sometimes you could be off by just a little bit because of a simple rounding error, and it would count it wrong. That's just the problem with online homework. So sometimes we would spend an hour trying to figure out what someone did wrong only to find it was a simple error.
More hints on the harder (last) unit would have been helpful.
100. Occasionally the homework problems did not correlate well with the material discussed in lecture.
101. It helped me make sure I was working problems correctly. I really liked how it immediately showed if the answer was right or not.
102. Not having more than one assignment due on the same day.
104. Fewer questions or parts of questions.
105. Make hw relevant to class problems
106. i like the homework system. it seems to be the most efficient way to run the homework system for a large class such as ef 151. I do however think that the class needs more open ended work rather than solve for this equation. The last few homework assignments were like this but they were quite long and of a far higher difficulty than the test.
108. none
110. No suggestions
111. I thought the homework system was efficient; I have no suggestions.
112. The homework really helps you understand and learn the material. I don't know how people could pass without it.
114. I found that my biggest trouble spots on the tests were situation that weren't covered in the homework.
Maybe if the homework covered a slightly broader range of topics (or even just a review hw for each module test) it would resolve any issues. More questions, fewer parts (like A-C instead of A-E).
115. None
116. None.
117. none
118. none
122. no comment
124. Do not deduct points on home work.
133. none.
134. Make better hints. Look at the textbook is not a hint
135. .
137. Less references to Optional Textbooks.
138. N/A
139. Again, don't show hints after missing a question.
140. N/A
142. I like it just the way it is. Sometimes more improvements can lead to more complications like mastering by Pearson.
143. More help on hard problems, discussion board helped a little but still found a lot of problems challenging
144. remove the punt option
146. n/a
148. Good as is
150. none
151. Homework problems were difficult and complex; they took way too much time to do.
152. The homework page felt a bit difficult to navigate...I wish I could describe why. Some things just feel as if they're in the wrong place. (Sorry I couldn't be more helpful.)
153. I think there should be a 1-2 try forgiveness on deductions. In other words, you can get the answer wrong once or twice before the system starts removing points.
154. it's good
155. The homework was fine as is.
156. Combine lessons, and with those combined lessons, do more comprehensive homework assignments. So when the final rolls around, students will be more prepared overall and will be less rusty in certain areas.
157. It's a good system. A lot of homework but we need the practice.
161. Use better hints! "Look at the textbook" is obviously not helpful at all, because VERY few people have the textbook!!!!!!!! Sooooo frustrating...
162. It was just really hard getting two assignments done on monday's when the lecture for one of them was on the same day for extra credit. I would just make one due on tuesday
163. I liked how this semester there was only one due on Monday instead of two. This made the class so much more manageable and better to understand the material.
165. None.
171. less double homework nights
172. doesn't need improvements
173. The homework is not as related to the lecture and exam problems.
175. better hints
176. The homework system works well! I love the extra credit opportunities on all of them.
177. Be nice it it would help you learn the material more if you kept failing a question (such as mentioning a page number or the relevant recitation note or time in the recitation videos).
178. I wish each module had had a review assignment.
179. dont give as much as we had because very often i found myself overwhelmed
180. None that I can think of.
181. Upon certain occasions, I misunderstood a question. More information in the question is always helpful.
183. Make questions build on top of each other better. Work out a system for the student to get credit if they try and get them wrong.
184. N/A
185. No two homework assignments on Mondays.
186. none
188. better hints
189. Create a section where students could practice problems before losing points on the actual thing. Also create explanations so that when students get questions wrong they know why.
191. space them out, there were times when they were two due at the same time.
193. No comment.
197. N/A
199. none.
200. Better hints
201. I like the system
203. It's nice to know immediately if my answer is right or wrong, but I sort of miss a "completion" point value for attempting a problem.

I think it works well and really have no complaints.
204. none
205. i really dont have any suggestions. it is very good
207. When the only Hint on a problem refers to a textbook example, that puts those who have not bought the textbook at a disadvantage. Maybe work that example from the book and post it as a link in the Hint box, so everyone can see it.
209. Assign less HW
211. Less homework
212. n/a
214. Lots of homework. Took up a lot of time.
215. N/A
216. When the homeworks are especially hard, more hints/hints that actually tell us something useful would be lovely.
217. n/a
218. No improvements, perfection cannot be improved.
220. NO comments for improving the homework system
221. Love the extra 10 points if you finish before the due dates.
222. It would help to not have two assignments due in one day.
223. n/a
224. Very good.
225. None
226. If you all could find a way to make it multiple choice I would find that very helpful so we might have an idea that we may have made a simple numerical calculation error-sometimes I would do a problem a completely different way after I missed the answer and then it would take forever to see that it was a numerical error at the beginning that I messed up.
227. none
228. Maybe try not to make more than one due on any given due date.
230. none
232. none
233. n/a
234. give a way to contact other students or a help center from the website, such that someone who is stuck on a problem doesn't just sit there stuck.
235. No improvements come to mind. Just encourage students to work in groups. I learned the material much better when working on homework with other people.
236. I like it the way it is.
237. Make the hints helpful. Hints such as "refer to example 10.2" rarely help and the book usually ends up making things more confusing.
239. better hints
240. none.
241. No homework taken up. Homework grades speak for themselves.
242. I would like if in lecture they would do more examples like we will find in homework.
243. I don't believe anything needs improving as far as the homework goes, though as far as technical issues go there is a slight problem with logging in from the homework page: when reaching the homework portion of the sight THEN logging in (as opposed to logging on when at the homepage or at ef 151) the sight requests a log in every time you click a link within the engineering site. I ran into this problem several times and it drove me crazy (I didn't finish some homework I was so frustrated with the system) until I figured out how to get around that.
247. allow more time to receive full credit
248. lengthen due dates
249. The online homework is convenient when needed to work from anywhere as long as I have my labtop.
250. in class examples
251. N/A
252. Maybe show solutions for similar problems. Not quite the same with different numbers, making it too easy, but something dealing with the same concept(s) set up to solve things that will make the relationship between the sample problem and the homework problem clear.
253. None.
254. Homework is very strenuous, but that is a good thing I suppose.
255. change it to a pass/fail completion grade. seriously.
257. The amount of homework was on the verge of overwhelming. I had many very late nights doing it. I feel like I could have done better in some of my other classes if I wasn't always bombarded with so much EF homework.
261. None, it was very good.
262. Loved the homework system. Would however find it even better if some of the problems were broken up into smaller pieces. For example, if you are asked for a time and have to find a final velocity, acceleration, or something else before you can even solve for time, I think there should be several fields to break the problem into smaller pieces and make it easier to point out the issue if the final answer is wrong.
263. None, it was good.
269. Again, change the hints to none-textbook-problem-references, and all should be good.
272. Have examples of problems worked through linked to the website. Maybe, even have the link deduct from your score. I would rather have a low homework score and understand the material better, than having a low homework score and still not understanding the material.
273. N/A
278. I wish that when you 'punted' you could see how the question is worked out to get the right answer. I mean, I never punted this semester. So, I guess I don't really know what happens when you do punt.
279. N/a
280. do not say look at text example. No one has a textbook
284. N/A
286. Take off the add/subtract 1 to answer. There is no need.
287. It is a good system use the hints better as I mentioned above, you have no clue how frustrating it is to be screwing up on a problem and look at the hints and just see them tell you to look at a figure.
290. NA
291. Don't be strict about layout
293. Make it deduct less points.
295. Make the 110% go down progressively.
297. none
298. none
301. Do not use "see text book" as a hint for the homework.
303. The homework was incredibly tedious because of things like units. I guess thats a necessary part of this class but its still a bit frustrating especially when I know I'm working the problem right.
304. i like it most out of all my homework assignments
305. Can't think of anything to improve.
308. they are very difficult
309. More time and make the homework more reflective of test.
310. Loved the question discussion board.
311. none
312. I don't know what it was, but I did have some issues with the pictures and diagrams loading occasionally. Other than that the system is great!
315. n/a
316. Allow a little more time to understand lecture content.
318. No complaints.
319. I wish there had not been so many questions that were really really hard and felt like we never used them again, they kill time and I forget it later since we don't apply it.
320. Tooooo much homework. it gets old and boring at the end of the semester
323. I also appreciate this hints and discussion board.
325. n/a
326. Create a personal statistics for a user's homework progress, organized by # of tries and punts in a module so someone may have an idea of what to study for exams.

General comments/suggestions for improving the discussion board:
4. N/a
8. Answers are a little too vague
15. Never used
16. I thought it was fine the way that it was.
17. solid- very helpful when completely stuck on a problem
21. It is fine the way it is.
22. This was a great way for students to help each other solve the problems that weren't directly in study groups. Great idea!
24. None, very easy to read and navigate.
26. I like the discussion board, it helped when I studied alone.
27. none
29. I think that the discussion board is very useful and should not be changed.
30. No, I thought that it was extremely helpful.
31. When the professor/TA answers a question please don't be vague. I have yet to get/see a helpful answer by a professor/TA on the discussion board. I know you are worried about "giving" away the answer, but you don't have to be quite so vague.
33. It is a great system

60. Very useful.
64. It would be nice if someone (preferably a GTA or other knowledgeable person) actually watched the discussion boards for at least a few hours leading up to the due time. It seemed like no one was there to help sometimes.
65. Professors need to be more specific in their responses b/c people are posting the exact ways to do them and it doesn't help with learning. If the professors would give more elaborate answers, people wouldn't have to result to practically give the answers away.
68. N/A
69. I think this is a very good thing to have.
70. The discussion board is very helpful when you are stuck on a problem in homework. I wish that the conversations on the discussion board were better organized, because sometimes it was confusing and you could get lost in the conversation.

84. You should let other students see the images others post for the instructor's to comment on.
86. The inclusion of a solution page per each question would help, I think, as the discussion board can generally be too vague or filled with comments like "I don't get this at all."
87. I think the discussion board could get very confusing to see if someone has already asked your question.
88. I would prefer emails if someone responded to my questions on the discussion board.
91. It helps although sometimes questions were not answered very thoroughly and this caused major problems.
92. Specify the question that is being discussed.
93. Have someone monitor it more
95. Discussion board always helped when I was stuck on a problem
96. Nothing.
99. It is good. I cannot think of any way of improving it.
101. It was very helpful. Usually someone had already asked my question.
102. It is nice to know that other students have the same issues.
104. None.
105. Should have question answered within a certain time during the same day, but not the next day.
106. I like the idea of a discussion board but i never had a need to use it. I never knew that i could answer questions on the discussion board, if i did i would have helped

111. The discussion board is a wonderful tool to utilize when stuck. Please keep this tool on the website.
112. It was a useful resource, however I never asked a question.

118. ok
122. discussion board helped alot on homework
123. Post hours when TA's or instructors will be online for discussion board. Maybe this is already posted and I missed it.
124. Very nice system.
126. Though it would take some work, implementing a system that gave the user an option to receive prompts concerning responses to questions on the discussion board would be helpful.
129. It's a great help.
133. I think they should have to be monitored before the posts were put online because sometimes someone would try to answer a person's question but what they told them was not correct.

153. The discussion board is extremely helpful.
154. really helpful
155. I liked the format of the discussion board.
156. Have a general method on how to solve the problems already posted by a professor, and then if there are still problems, have the discussion board opened to Q&A.
157. Used it alittle but not a lot.
161. None
162. I like it a lot... It was extremely helpful
163. Kick off the comments that have no relevance to the question.
164. I thought it was very useful.
165. There should be some sort of equation editor for the discussion board.
166. It helped me alot with tough questions.
167. Towards the latter part of the semester I started to rely on the discussion board more often. While helpful, I think it was also harmful in that it created a type of dependency to look at whenever I didn't know how to do a problem from first glance.
170. I really appreciated the discussion board because sometimes when you're stumped on a problem all you need read through others comments and catch your own mistakes.
171. discussion is very good and very useful for online homework help
172. did not use very much
176. I think the professors really need to emphasize how helpful the discussion board is, because I did not realize how helpful it was until module 4.
178. I'm not sure if I didn't understand other student's responses or if they actually did mislead me, but I feel like student responses should be moderated/approved if they aren't already.
179. i didn't use it very often so i don't have any comments

215. It would be better if it were more organized. if there could be folders for specific problems so you could quickly identify the one you need help on instead of just scrolling down a board of random problems that would be great

234. There isn't much to say. The set up is hard to use fluidly, but besides vid chat there isn't much improvement.
235. Advise students if they are going to answer questions, they must be dead certain their explanation works and is clear. This was not a huge problem, but the room for ambiguous or misleading explanations was present. Otherwise, it was a great tool for communication quickly amongst the class.
237. Break each HW section down by individual problems; i.e. Hw 4-2-2 should be broken down into questions about part a; ?'s about part b; ? about c; etc.
240. none.
241. The equations on the discussion board were a little hard to understand. If we were able to use certain symbols, it would be easier to understand.

271. Great feature
272. Use the "marked as answered" function more. I only started noticing that closer to the end of the semester.
273. The discussion board was a lifesaver at times!
278. The discussion board is very beneficial because people ask the same questions I am thinking.
279. Maybe find a way to show what specific question was answered. Some people put who they were responding too, but others didn't so if you were reading a long post it was sometimes difficult to see who/what someone was responding too.
280. The discussion board became more useful near the end of the semester
284. N/A
287. Have people watch it more it isn't hard to just leave a tab open to it and refresh every now and then, it is annoying to ask a question at 8 and not get an answer till ten then to try the solution they said it fail and ask another question a few minutes later only to receive an answer the next morning.

153. Sometimes students will ask the professors to look at their work, and then the professor helps them. Often, though, the inability for other students to see the work themselves makes it impossible to benefit from these questions. 43. The help sessions helped me so very much! It was very helpful to have the ability to ask questions at night when homework was due. I would like it if they were closer because sometimes I wouldn't go because I did not want to walk so far late at night in the dark. Overall, the help sessions were excellent!
44. I like help sessions when you get individual help and a TA walks around to help you on a question. Other help sessions when the TA tried to do it on the projection, I had already done half the problems so it didn't help.

70. I will go to the help sessions if I need to, so for that last question "How often would you attend help sessions?" a better answer would be "Less" or "only if I desperately needed help". Every time I went the TAs were very confusing, did not want to explain the same problem over and over again, tried to show off, and tended to act like engineering was easy and I should be able to understand it easily. I often had to get help from some of the students in there or teach myself at a very slow pace. Sometimes the Help Sessions were marginally helpful, but sometimes they were just a waste of my time. I would have liked it if the first year TAs were able to do the Help Sessions as well as the second+ year TAs, and if Dr. Bennett or Professor Schleter could have stopped by like they do in Estabrook 122 that may have also made the session better.

108. THey were helpful, but sometimes it takes too long to work one problem.
110. the help sessions always helped me figure out the homework. ALWAYS.
111. Having one more TA present would be wonderful. During many help sessions I would waste many minutes waiting for help. If another TA was present, more students could be helped.
112. It was not convenient for me, I do not live on campus and it was difficult for me to attend them.

226. I felt over all that the help sessions were helpful, however at times when the homework was harder I would suggest making more help sessions- maybe two night help sessions at two different times. I didn't need to go to the help sessions at first until the homework started getting more difficult, and when I would go there would be so many people a lot of the time and I would have so many questions on how to do it that I couldn't really get all the questions that I needed- sometimes even less than half the questions I had would get answered. And the other help session that you all have during the day I would still have class so it was hard to go most days.

70. The study room is a good tool. Sometimes it can be a bit frustrating because you did not know who the TA was that was working or there were so many people in there that the TA couldn't help you. The assistants who helped me were Andrew Fleming and, once, Jerry Chen. Both were very knowledgeable and helpful. I really enjoyed there help. To improve the study room, I would suggest staffing it with 2 to 4 TAs at least a few hours every day to help with all of the people in there. I like it when Dr. Bennett and Professor Schleter sometimes come in there to help too.

There are people that will fail regardless of the amount that you offer them help. The class should not be tailored for the lowest quality student but for a good student and those who do not work to be a good student should either work to become a good student or rethink their major to something that does not require as much work as engineering.

170. I met a group of people who actually are from my hometown, but never knew before college. We'd work on homework and help each other with any questions and study for tests sort of separately but then ask each other questions if we were struggling with something in particular
171. study groups helped alot with homework and tests
172. Pretty helpful
175. Helps a lot

234. FORM THEM. THEY HELP A LOT.
235. I think they would be very helpful, I just never bothered trying to form or get into one. I did, however, often work with the same people in the study room and we got to know each other and regularly helped each other with homework.
240. none
241. Being a part of study groups helped me understand key concepts better.
243. Had a group of 3-7 that met every other week at least, and often more than once a week. Living in Engage is something I wish was offered for the rest of college, though I'll no doubt end up close to my friends wherever I go next year.
244. no i dont have any.

254. Very very good idea. The test that was taken the day after my one and only study group with a classmate was the highest scoring test I have taken -- by 15 points at least.
261. They really help.
263. None. My group was just fine.
269. This might have helped, if my friends had needed it, or if we didn't have conflicting schedules.

24. None, honestly the system is great.
26. No, the class is well thought out.
27. none
28. I think the way the class was set up was organized and effective. I am not sure what could be changed to make it more helpful.
29. I think that we could have done more hands on examples in recitation as a way to better learn the material and how it is applicable to our lives.
30. Not that I know of.
31. If there is a particularly "hard" problem, put up a step by step how to and and why you did each along with the homework. You did this for one of the module 3 homework problems that had to do with plane of contact.

36. Not that I can think of.
37. I think this course is very well-rounded as it is.
39. Out of all my classes, this was the most organized along with EF 105. EF 151 was definitely my favorite.
41. None.
42. nope, everything's good
43. Going to an actual engineering job would be helpful.
A dropped exam would be awesome!!
Overall, this was an excellent and time consuming class. Thank you for your help. I did not just feel like a number.

70. I really enjoyed this class, the way it was set up, and the coursework. I am excited about my upper-level classes; I hope they are as enjoyable as this one was, and I get as lucky as I was this year in terms of teachers, teaching assistants, and study help. It was a great course!
71. Engage community was pretty cool.

75. This has been the best freshman engineering program I have ever heard of, and I have enjoyed learning this material immensely.

84. Nope.
87. No I think that enough was offered to help me through the class.
88. No.
90. None that have not already been implemented into the class.
91. Not really, the professors and TA's really gave a lot of tools and opportunity to work on engineering and help you out.
92. Online example links on homework for similar problems.
93. N/A
95. none
96. online videos.
98. wolframalpha.com should be encouraged for use, to help with the homework.
99. Everything that could have been offered was offered.
102. None.
104. A way to make up more points on tests.
106. I honestly think that the class is to easy and that the tests grade too harshly on incorrect procedures but give plenty of partial credit for incorrect answers.
For example I got an 85 on a test only because I was docked 8 points on the test for not writing my kinetic diagrams even though i got the question correct. I think that it is ridiculous that the class would punish someone forgetting to put kinetic diagrams equally as someone missing the question entirely but getting partial credit for setting up a step correctly. I see how things such as this help those who get the problem wrong by giving partial credit but i do not understand why they should punish those who get the problem correct because they did not follow a model used in a lecture yet their method was still valid.
108. Not particularly. Wish I had done better.
110. I think that the book is an excellent source of help. Problems should be assigned from the book as optional extra practice on the website.
111. No, this survey covered them all.
112. No they really seem to have it figured out. This class by far exceeded the help resources of any other class I have taken.
114. Better reviewing for the tests (as in, a list of concepts/goals being tested). The goals never felt clear, and my test scores kinda reflected that haha.
115. Nope, nada.

142. The TI-89 calculator is what I used and I think is easier to use the solve function than the TI-83. Maybe somehow implement that into EF 151.
143. Extra notes to help with homework. Break down of concepts and methods use to solve problems!!
146. no
148. No
150. none
151. The class is tough, even with all the resources available.
152. Yes--devices and machines students can observe and experiment with that illustrate the lessons from each lecture (just like the balancing tools in Estabrook, which illustrated center of gravity).
154. nope
156. Other than more comprehensive homework, there isn't much I would change about this course.
157. Nope, everything was good.
158. A lot of stuff expected. Again, not enough credit hours.
161. More demonstrations during the lectures--more real objects and examples
162. Maybe allow students to submit questions about certain problems that you can go over in lecture
163. Possibly office hours with Dr. Bennett and Prof. Schleter. They are very kind, helpful, and understanding.
165. If there are any free or inexpensive apps that help visualize the material, that would be great.

189. MIT Physics with Walter Lewin on iTunes U was very very helpful when I didn't understand something. These videos pretty much taught me this class.
191. Since we have such a big lecture class and we done have time to really ask question and dig deep. Recitation should probably have a day where TA goes through the lecture and answer stuff you didn't understand.
193. Not that I can think of.
195. have one recitation a week, and the other time just be for help with homework or other issues
197. N/A
198. Make lectures available online, specifically some sort of video recording. This will enable the students to review the examples worked in class in the event they missed something in lecture.
199. no
200. Nope
203. Hats.

Seriously. I would wear the dickens out of an EF 151 hat.
204. None
205. i think there are plenty of resources available
208. Maybe be able to video chat (like skype through website) with professors/TAs/students.
209. maybe 152 personal tutors, just an idea
211. None that I can think of
212. I think by now they have it down pretty well.
214. no
215. N/A
216. I think the most helpful resource would be the book, but since we were required to buy it, knowing certain chapters to study and examples/practice problems to look at would help greatly.

221. Take out the projects. It takes too much of our time, especially the Rube Goldberg near our finals.
223. not at this time
224. There are already a ton of resources available.
226. Offer a free online textbook that helps explain the same kind of homework problems that go more in depth then the lectures.
227. none
228. I'm very impressed with the engineering program, it's resources, its efficiency, and its teachers/lecturers. Very good.
232. no
234. list other textbooks, or online sources instead of every so often in online homework. They interested me.
235. I recommend the study room, discussion board, and study groups as the most effective tools for doing well in this class. No other possible resources come to mind that would significantly improve this class. However, I think it might be beneficial in recitations for TA's to either go over the test after everyone, including make-ups, has taken it. At the very least have them open the floor for questions at the beginning of recitation about the previous test when they are handed back. This would allow students an easy opportunity to understand what they did wrong on the tests.
240. no
241. A easy-to-follow textbook would have probably helped. I had no clue what physics even was until I took this class, so I was a bit overwhelmed at first.
243. I think everything was pretty well covered. I really wish the notes for the second half of the class had come all in one, as I had to copy a friend's notes rather than simply being able to fill in my own when I watched the lecture capture. If a calender (1 page front and back maybe) for the class and all its important dates and homework and all was given out that would have been handy, and if at the end of the class an equation sheet with everything we've covered could be handed out that'd be really nice.

257. None in particular. Recitation is very helpful with the examples and more in depth explanations.
261. No
263. Nope. Everything for the most part went smoothly.
269. Not especially. I think there are already plenty of valuable resources gathered here for this class as it is. Thanks for the class!~
271. Love the class, great teachers
275. a few more projects, that way at the end of the semester we aren't rushing on how to figure out how to build and how to use the equipment
279. N/a
284. N/A
287. I really think the lectures should just be videos to watch online as this is what a lot of students did and would free up a lot of resources, I think there should be a greater emphasis on recitation and homework working in this class. Maybe find out a way to incorporate a virtual study group that would be pretty cool.

311. none
315. none
316. You should be able to have practice problems like the homework, but with full solutions and not for a grade. I also really liked the one problem that had a video solution. More of those should be availible.
318. None that I can think of.
319. Not that I can think of, class definitely exceeded expectations. Judging from the first homework, I thought it would be a much simpler class. But it turned out to be very difficult and time consuming. Especially since we had it every day.
323. No; but please, do not require the textbook!
325. more calculator help
